- Q:I was looking at the wiring of my current thermostat and I want to know why it's wired the way it is...The yellow wire was wrapped around the white terminal and the yellow terminal. - You should take sketches of the thermostats and wires to your favorite plumbing heating store, and talk to a service person, if you feel competent enough to do the proper connections yourself. Also, include details of the thermostat wiring connections to your heating unit. Otherwise, get such a person to come over to your house to do the work.
- Q:I am installing an amp in my '04 Chevy crew cab truck and am running new wire for the speakers. I was able to get the fronts wired but when I broke into the back doors there is a feedthrough connector where I need to put the wires through. I am sure this connector contains the wires for my windows, door lights and the current speaker wires. My question is how do I get my new 18 gauge wires through to the speakers, am I missing something?Thanks in advance!!
- You can do a couple things, fish a stiffer wire through with your wire taped securely to it or , i hate to say this but you could tape two wires( your speaker wire, and a replacement wire) and cut one , and pull the two thru taped to the cut one. then reattach the cut ones ends to the replacement.Thats provided the one u might cut can move freely back and fourth.

- well speaker wire inside the box i never would wire them together but 10 gauge sounds ok but just buy an amp wireing kit and it will give you proper wires just to be safe make sure all your wires can handel the power other wise it will burn the wires up yes you should pull the apart cause it wont sound right i usaly do is like the wires i buy have a white stripe on them i use that 1 as a ground wire so i know whic 1 is what

- Connect a new piece of 3 wire to the existing 2 wire and pull it through the wall by pulling the 2 wire. Of course if it gets stuck you will need to measure how far you pulled to know where to cut a hole in the wall. Cutting a hole in the wall if needed, isn't a big deal you just put the piece back, screw or nail it down (cut so you have studs on both sides to reattach it later) tape and plaster and paint.

- Q:I have a very old house. I was unhooking the fluorescent light in our kitchen to put a round ceiling light in and the old fluorescent light was plugged into the ceiling (like any regular two pronged electrical plug). How do I wire the ground wire, the line voltage wire, and the neutral wire from the new light so I can plug it into the plug in my ceiling?
- disconnect the outlet in your ceiling and expose the wiring and hardwire the new light this way, using the supplied wire nuts etc... if its an older home you may have trouble matching the new wiring scheme (black wire, white wire, copper wire) to what is existing in your ceiling... turn the juice off before you try (at the switch that controls the light and throw the breaker or pull the fuse just to be safe) thats always the way it works... attach the ground wire to a screw that holds up the new light (if its not grounded all the way through the circuit it wont matter anyway) if you have an electricity tester try and determine which wire is hot and connect the black wire to that one, white wire to the other one.. maybe you can tell by the way the outlet was wired which one was carrying the load if you look closely at where the connections were made, often times those hot screw terminals will be differnt color than the neutral (gold vs silver?).. if all else fails i would say the blue marked one was marked for a reason, probably to show that it is hot.

- to add to Generic John's post ..pay attention to the color of the wires. one will most likely have no cover to it ,thats the neutral. so it would be for example . to red,white to white , neutral to neutral
- Q:Just bought a new amp for my truck. The speaker outputs needs to be indiviually wired to the door speakers. Do you splice into the speaker wire or the trucks harness?
- ideally you want to wire directly from the amp to the door speakers with new speaker wire but doing this properly requires removing some of the trimming and passing the new wires throughout the car. you can also take the easier route and pass the wires from your amp up under the steering wheel behind the center console and splice them into the existing wires going to the door speakers. as long as the wattage isn't very high the latter shouldn't be a problem. however, if it were up to me i would use new wires and pass them throughout the car, removing the trimmings, etc. this can be somewhat of a pain to do if you have never done it before though.
