Q:I saw a wide range of prices for vacuum cleaners...I just need a decent one, how much should that cost?
I happen to have a consumer reports online subscription, so i looked it up for you in the members only area. They rate the upright vaccums in the same category. There are a bunch of expensive models but the top rated ones under $200 are: In order from top to bottom in the rating. -Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 ($150) *CR Best Buy -Hoover Tempo Widepath U5140-900 ($70) -Eureka Boss 4D 5893 ($140) -Hoover Mach5 U5194-900 ($200) -Hoover EmPower U5262-910 -Bissell Momentum 82G71 -Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Turbo 3760-1 ($170) So if you can find a couple of these and compare them, you will be the smart shopper. By the way. The number one and number two picks by consumer reports were two different models of the Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive (one is bagless, the other one has a bag) The Eureka above is listed at third (has a bag). Dyson came in 9th.
Q:Vacuum cleaners work by suction and suck up dirt. That would finally be correct usage of the word suck.
While an open-ended vacuum does, literally, suck, one usually refers to the process, suction, specifically suction power when referring to the machine's action. One might be more specific/scientific refer to force of the vacuum if one were attempt to weigh the merits of various vacuum cleaners, although this is usually done by comparing relative measures of engine horsepower. Usually, of course, a practical demonstration is called for given. As for the negative connotations given to the term in common parlance, there are two possibilities: 1) It is an abbreviated version of the term more euphemistically stated as vacuums excrement. 2) It could refer to a negative memory of an adolescent experiment w/ a machine... The former seems more likely. But, as Fats Waller used to say: One never knows... Do one?
Q:It's around $500 for a middle quality/tier unit.
You're paying for the brand!
Q:I have four cats and most of my house is carpeted. I've had horrible luck with vacuum cleaners. Should I break down and get a high end vacuum cleaner? (No, vacuum cleaner salesmen, Please.)
I would go to a vaccuum cleaner shop and tell them about your carpet cats. They will most likely reccommend a cleaner that will specialise in removing pet hair. Aside from good suction, It needs to be easy to clean. Some of the bagless vacs are good, BUT you still need to clean the filter (make sure you do this every time you vac for a trouble free machine - most vacs die coz they are full of dust which gets into the mechanics). I am not a vaccuum cleaner saleswoman - but someone much like you who has killed their fair share of vacs!! The one I have at the moment is a cheap one, but I dont have cats in the house. I know how hard it can be to pick up cat hair!!
Q:Okay so I realize how dumb this question sounds. I have severe OCD. You know how a toilet sends particles into the air when you flush it? Well, does the same happen with a vacuum cleaner? Like, if I vacuumed my room, would all the particles on my floor go into the air/onto my stuff? I hate that I need this reassurance-but could somebody please explain to me in detail? Much appreciated(:

Q:survey - why do vacuum cleaners suck so much ?
They don't suck as much as your mom
Q:Do they actually increase the amount of suction or are they simply a marketing ploy we have all fallen victim to?
We bought a Dyson and that sucker works! Never lose suction and removes dirt better than any other vacuum we have compared it to.
Q:Who vacums when its pitch black???
Lighted vacuums are like Heineken some commercials - reaches the underparts that other vacuums don't reach. Having a light on a vacuum is advantageous when you want to vacuum those dark corners where normal light can't shine. They scare away the shadows too. If you *do* try to vacuum in darkness with one of these, the lights only give you a few inches of light, so in my opinion, there's no real point in having them except for decoration.
Q:What kind of power inverter can handle a house vacuum cleaner?
A BIG one. It should be rated to deliver at least 2500 watts continuously. Such an inverter would be very costly, and run even a very large battery down very quickly. A generator rated for 2500 watts or more would be much easier, and probably cheaper, to feed.
Q:Every day I meet a black woman she asks me what kind of vacuum cleaner I have. How can I tell them that there is more to conversation than vacuuming? Please help, this is driving me nuts!
Why is this in the celebrities section and why are you being such a racist just cuz ONE black woman was talking about vacum cleaners?
