Use masonry bits in the drill. Start with a small hole and keep using larger bits to increase the size of the hole rather than trying to drill a big hole from the start. It helps to wet the end of the bit. If the hole has to be in a precise location, put a piece of masking tape up and put a mark on the tape exactly where the hole will be. The tape will help keep the drill bit in the spot where you want the hole, rather than having it skip around as it usually would do on the slick tile surface. Put the drill on a slow speed at first to get the hole started if the drill bit is trying to skip around.

You do not want to do this for two reasons. One is that it will take away all the protection from the tile that allows the tile itself to be water proof and stain proof. Take away the glaze and the tile will stain. The second reason is that the glaze provides most of the tile body strength. A couple of things to help prevent tiles from being slick.. Remove all wet shoes and keep the floor dry. Hard with kids I know. Anti slip area rugs helps. And lastly there are products that you can use in the mop water that helps the tiles from being slick. Check out Home Depot or Lowes.............personal opinion - don't use carpet at all - it holds in so much dirt, dust, mites, smells, etc. Terrible for anyone with allergies. Just my opinion. The only place that has carpet in our house is the stairs and hallway...........put laminate wood flooring in the bedrooms and tile everywhere else. You can buy throw rugs that can be cleaned easier than carpeting. Best of luck!! ?
