Q:I had a demonstration once and the Kirby vacumm did seem to be sucking the dirt up from not only the rugs but also under the floorboards! I was amazed to say the least. But I'd like to know what the owners of them think. Tell me all about the good and bad sides of this vacuum. Thanks :)
I own two of them.one for upstairs one for downstairs. They are very good machines.if something breaks, which is rare,it is easily fixed with replacement parts. Now the reason I own two is because they are so darn heavy.(Metal Parts).I used to but a new Hoover every year or two.I have owned Electrolux and Also Phantom. The negative aspects of Kirby are; They are not Bagless ,the hose has to be attached when you need it by taking the machine apart,They are pretty heavy. But I believe they will last forever. The attachments are endless you can order all kinds of things that can be attached to your Kirby.( I have a set of Kirby hair clippers that I use to cut my Boys hair and they are awesome the hair sucks right into the hose)The only other Vacuum I would be interested in Owning is the Dyson.Primarily because I do miss on board attachments ,Not having to buy bags, and a lighter weight machine. But I have had both of my Kirbys for sometime and I just cant seem to break one.
Q:It's around $500 for a middle quality/tier unit.
They are the best. I have one and it pics up alll the dirt from beneath the carpet, it deep cleans.. I love it and reccomend it.
Q:I am trying to find a vacuum cleaner that works but has a security feature that prevents it from being stolen. I work in a residence hall and have inherited the task of finding new vacuum cleaners. This hall has a history of thievery when it comes to vacuums, so I am hoping to find a means by which to control usage of a vacuum either with a key, a code, a combination, a timer, etc. Checking them out and in has proven not to work so well in the past.I want these vacuums to last for a long time, and I want them to be able to power through almost anything (hair, stickers, bobby-pins, etc.). Thanks for the help!
That is a tough one. I do not know of a vacuum that has a lock built into it. The Miele canister vacuum cleaners have a handle. You can put a bicycle style lock through the handle. You could also do that with a Dyson. The Miele's last really well.
Q:ok so i was cleanin my room today. i ran the sweeper under my desk and my comp froze and crashed and the screen looked like a video game when it crashes. and i rebooted it and it was fine. and i ran the sweeper under my desk again and same thing happened. but its fine when i'm not running the cleaner under my desk. wtf does that mean? do vacuum cleaners emit somekinda fequency that comps just dnt like? it never happened at my old house and when i had win XP. i have win 7 now.
You may be pulling close to 20 total amps on the circuit. The static electricity also may be jumping to wires. Its called signal jump. To much power in the motor of the vacuum cleaner can create a huge electric field which could overwhelm your components in the computer. Shut the computer OFF when vacuuming.
Q:Are there any vacuum cleaners that have a charcoal filter? If so, what's the cheapest one?
not that i know of . and it would be better to get one with a hepa filterthey trap more dirt than regular filters and that means less allergys and irritants in the air for you.
Q:Just curious. What would the effect be?
A clean black hole, I guess. Could you read about black holes, BEFORE you post?
Q:When were wet/dry vacuums invented?
Daniel Hess of West Union, Iowa invented a vacuum cleaner in 1860, calling it a carpet sweeper instead of a vacuum cleaner. His machine did, in fact, have a rotating brush like a traditional carpet sweeper, and also possessed an elaborate bellows mechanism on top of the body to generate suction of dust and dirt. Hess received a patent (US No. 29.077) for his invention of the vacuum cleaner on July 10, 1860 British engineer, Hubert Cecil Booth patented a motorized vacuum cleaner on August 30, 1901. Booth's machine took the form of a large, horse-drawn, petrol-driven unit, which was parked outside the building to be cleaned with long hoses being fed through the windows. Booth first demonstrated his vacuuming device in a restaurant that same year and successfully sucked dirt. More Americans inventors introduced variations of the same cleaning-by-suction type contraptions. For example, Corinne Dufour invented a device that sucked dust into a wet sponge; and, David Kenney designed a huge machine that was installed in a cellar and connected to a network of pipes leading to each room of a house. Of course, these early versions of vacuum cleaners were bulky, noisy, smelly, and unsuccessful.
Q:You can't vacuum if there's no power, so why would you need the light? You can't get into the corners of the carpet anyhow, so why taunt you by showing you the extra dust?
Well.. I am sure that it is NOT because they expect people to vacumn at night but there are rooms that are dimly light and the light helps a little... but when one really thinks about it.. it was a poor question and obviously the person who thought of the IDEA of putting a light on a vacumn did not have his IDEA BULB brightly lit
Q:I remember reading an interesting quote a while back about the advent of vacuum cleaners (which I think represented modern technology). It basically stated that before vacuum cleaners work was done by hand, and when vacuums were invented the work was done two times faster but because of the dust given off by the vacuum vacuuming had to be done twice as frequently as the manual way of cleaning. Does anyone know the quote in its entirety?
Nothing sucks like an Electrolux.
Q:What is the best lightweight vacuum cleaner for use in a home with pets? I am willing to spend up to $300.
Dysons are great, but a little pricey. Hoover makes one with a great attachment that hooks on to the hose. It's a rotating spin brush and it works awesome on furniture (and great for cars) to get all the hair off. It is lightweight and works great. All the filters are washable and it is bag-less.I can not remember what Hoover named it but it is a deep red, with the spin attachment (you'll know what I'm talking about as soon as you see it) I payed about $130 for mine and got it right at Wal-mart. It's worth trying, Wal-mart is pretty good about taking stuff back if you feel it didn't work properly for your needs. I think you keep it though.
