FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:My place only has one carpeted room, so it actually has very little to vaccum. I currently own a hand-me-down vacuum cleaner, but it's bulky so I end up not using because of convenience. Is there a cheap vacuum cleaner out there that could work for me, one that might even be good for hardwood floors?
Trust the old 'Henry' about ?80 and they really pull!
Q:I keep hearing about ones with bags, ones without, ones with filters, etc... What does it all mean?
You okorder .au I use it everyday without any problems, it picks up a bin full of dirt each time. The best thing is I dont have to do anything..
Q:I just bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner and I was wondering if they are really that good or did I just get ripped off for 2 grand ?
I purchased a Kirby Generation 3 vacuum twenty years ago. It has never broken down or malfunctioned or needed service of any kind. It works as well as the day I bought it and I use the wood floor buffer, the upholstery cleaner and the rug cleaner features, too. I have wood floors throughout my home with hand hooked area rugs here and there. This vacuum does a great job. I paid just under 1100 in 1989. All of my friends have since gone through several vacuums in 20 years, some spending over what I paid for just one vacuum. So, in that regard, yes, it is worth it because I still have my Kirby and it's showing no signs of loosing air. The only thing I hate about vacuums is the way it is spelled!!
Q:Please recommend a good & cheap vacuum for carpets and rugs.?
hey there- if you're cleaning carpeted stairs a gr8 idea is to use a rubber brush then a high quality dustbuster. there is one sold named xtreme power and it's awesome i have one
Q:have headlights?
On a riding lawn mower, so you can see obstructions if you are cutting under a shady tree, or bush. Commercial lawn maintenance people cut grass before the sun comes up at five in the morning for federal buildings. The light on the vacuum cleaner is handy yet again for seeing when vacuuming under a desk or table where the lighting is dim.
Q:I've owned a number of upright bagless vacuum cleaners, and they have all sucked (well, they've actually all stopped sucking to be precise). The Dyson claims to never lose its power, but its also 5x more expensive than the average upright. Is it worth it?
We have two big dogs that shed and we own the animal dyson - the purple one. It is DEFINITELY worth the money!!!!!!!!
Q:What kind of power inverter can handle a house vacuum cleaner?
A BIG one. It should be rated to deliver at least 2500 watts continuously. Such an inverter would be very costly, and run even a very large battery down very quickly. A generator rated for 2500 watts or more would be much easier, and probably cheaper, to feed.
Q:I have a Dyson Animal - what brand of Vacuum Cleaner do you use - Hoover, Dyson , Vax ..etc...
I want a Dyson, are they the best?
Q:The pool pump is broken at the moment, can I substitute that with a sump pump?
If the cord you're relating to is the vigour wire, it's not intended as a control device, and should now not have performed this. If anything, doing this may have triggered the pump to activate, if the cord used to be unintentionally lifting a waft-switch. Long-shot that you caused a erroneous cord/plug to vigor the unit up, however i'd be extra inclined to switch the pump swap. I've visible installations the place the wire kinda came out of the sump good, placing in mid-air, and put enough stress on the connection between the plug and receptacle/wall socket that that connection began to fail, so take a moment to investigate that out too, in particular if the receptacle is possibly getting a little ancient. My spouse would insist on just getting a entire new sump pump, not entirely a nasty inspiration, honestly.
Q:Does small industrial vacuum cleaners work perfectly ?
I don't know about perfectly but usually the motor is stronger, the bar is larger so more area is covered with one swipe which is good for large carpeted areas but maybe not for home with closer arranged furniture. They tend to be a bit quieter as you don't want to scare the guests. If you are talking about the wet/dry type, be careful with the cleaning heads. Without the self propelled feature on a head, they are hard to push over carpeting.
