FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:I need the upright vacuum cleaners found in consumer reports can this be found local or online?
you okorder
Q:My mother needs a new vacuum. I told her I'd research for her. She's 84 and doesn't use a computer.
The one that has the features SHE wants, and that fits into HER budget, not someone else's.
Q:Are black holes really cosmic vacuum cleaners?
Well, a vacuum cleaner sucks things up and a black hole sucks up and destroys things, so you could call it a cosmic vacuum cleaner. However, a black hole cannot be seen and is invisible. However, I learnt that when a star is going from very bright to not so very bright, a black hole is ripping apart the gas from the star. If you ever see a star going less bright from when it is very bright, a black hole is sucking the gas from it.
Q:Are there any upright vacuum cleaners you like thats under $100 and is not bag less?
Purchase a rebuilt or reconditioned vacuum from a Vacuum Cleaner Sales Store. You can probably pick up a $600.00 machine, rebuilt, for under $100.00. This would be a much better machine than any new machine that sells in that price range. you can also find, new, a Sharp machine for prox., $200.00.
Q:With Mother's Day around the corner I thought I'd ask something we all can use. There seems to be this idea floating around that many women don't like to receive things like vacuum cleaners, irons, etc. and would rather recieve something more sentimental in value. Men, on the other hand, love receiving tools and things that they can use to do things with. Most of the women in my family like getting things they can use like a vacuum cleaner or something to cook with, so I have to wonder if that thought is really true. So women, if you received a vacuum cleaner or some similar gift, would you be offended by it? If you would be, why? Is it implying that you are the homemaker because you're a woman?
if you buy your mom- or any woman a dyson or an oreck they will love you- also dysons are over 500.00 so that wouldn't beimplying you want her to do old fashioned womans house work but it does say look i bought yousomething useful and it works really well and i spent more than 30.00 on it! flowers wilt and die- jewelry is nice but a mom likes to have other things - and trinkets just sit on the shelf and gather dust- which she probably ends up dusting- and as far as cookware goes- hell yeah buy a woman a juicer- or an expensive mixer or new knives or cookware - i would be stoked! PS. Women like tools too- how many moms have a roadside emergency kit- or tool kit- that's not their significant others' that they can use at their disposal? or a cordless drill? any of those gifts i would be ecstatic!
Q:Vacuum Cleaners...please tell me the BEST one out there?!?!?!?
I agree with the others the Dyson's for the money seem to work the best I have had mine for 2 years and I would go through a vacuum two times a year before, I love it, it works amazingly at keeping dog and cat hair up and I'm always amazed at how much dust I pull up. I use mine almost every day, 3 cats and a dog with white carpet yikes! but it works very well. Hope this helps
Q:I cannot afford a dyson vacuum. Would like to spend under $100.00
If you are talking strictly hard flooring a shop vac would be ideal i would use a bag in it though it does create less maintenance in the long run due to the bag having a larger filtering area i would probably go with an allaround model due to their smaller size then i would pick up a quality hard floor tool i like anything made with horsehair stiff enough to remove the dust but soft enough not to scratch
Q:Does anyone recommend a hand held vacuum that has good suction enough to pick up cat fur from my couches and comforters? I am so tired of those lint roller things ...so expensive because you have to use sooo much. Is there a cheaper alternative? Thanks in advance :)
There was something called a Miracle Brush but I think it's off the market unless they renamed it. It had a 'fuzz' to it that when you swiped it one way on the furniture it'd pick up all the fur, and swiping it the other way had the fur all roll off. But if you want cheap that works good--get a couple of dish sponges, those soft rectangles, and make them damp, do sweeping strokes over the furniture and you'll see the fur come off. You can use a damp washcloth too, or a damp hand, but the sponges work pretty good. When you do a few swipes, use your fingers to pick off the roll of cat fur and continue to use it.
Q:I have low plush carpet, and two cats, one that sheds alot! So I need something that has alot of power. Any suggestions?
Here's a break down for you: Dyson makes a great vacuum for pet owners. These vacuums never loose suction power or clog. Dyson's are the ONLY bagless vacuums you should consider. I'm not saying they are the only vacuum for you, but they are the only bagless vacuums that won't clog up with pet hair. The pros are that the vacuum needs virtually no maintanence. You won't have to replace bags, belts or filters and the suction power is the strongest on the market. I recommend you look at the Dyson Absolute Animal ($549). Aside from Dyson, Kenmore really makes the best vacuum on the market. If you are looking for an upright, look for model 20-35922/3. It was rated #1 by consumer reports. There is no belt to replace. It has great suction and hand tools specifically for cleaning up pet hair. You want to buy the cloth bags. They are more expensive, but they hold three times the pet hair and keep your vacuum from smelling up the house with cat smell. Vaccum, $280 + $8 for bags $15 for the filter. Kenmore also has some great canister style vacuums. These are better if you have a lot of stairs/hard floors. They have a power-driven hand tool that is unbelievable for pet hair. Again, buy the cloth bags. Model 20-24914/5 $399 or 20-24614 $299 + $8 for bags and $15 for filters. Hoover makes a nice vacuum, but they tend to be noisy and not as easy to push as the Kenmore plus you have to change belts. Dyson would still be my top choice for you, but the Kenmores's are less expensive up front.
Q:You can't vacuum if there's no power, so why would you need the light? You can't get into the corners of the carpet anyhow, so why taunt you by showing you the extra dust?
So you can see what you are vacuuming up under your couch or easy chair where it is dark. (A lot of couches used to sit up off the ground.)
