Q:I own an Audi A4 2001 and my check engine light comes on almost everyday then will go off. The first time it came on was almost a year ago and I had it checked by auto zone. They said it was my cadlic converter.I never got it checked out, so now it‘s coming on almost everyday then going off after the car is parked for awhile. I just found out that I may have a problem with my CV joint as well, so I was wondering if it was my CV joint the whole time making my light come on? Is it possible??

No. Those two issues are unrelated. When the MIL light (check engine) pops on, its only informing you that the computer is getting a reading that is out of spec on any of the electrical sensors that make the car operate in top shape. 9 times out of 10, it is a fault with the emissions system, especially on the Audi A4. Have the CV shaft/half shaft on both sides replaced. Take it to the Audi dealer and have them inspect it. Those idiots at Auto Zone don't know much about cars, trust me, even if they pull a code. Usually they are a generic code anyway. You need the manufacturer specific code to cross reference as a starting point. Your dealer is your best bet. I wouldn't trust any garage mechanic to do the work. Go to the dealer only or a reputable IMPORT auto shop to do the work.

Q:My check engine light came on so I went to Auto Zone and they plugged in the gadget thing and the code read System Too Lean. So the associate suggested it was the fuel injectors were not giving enough gas to the engine and had me put fuel injector fluid in the gas tank, which I did along with a full tank of gas. She said if it wasn‘t my fuel injectors that the light would come back on. Lo and behold, the light cam e back on. Also my car is sucking up sooo much gas, I‘m down to a half a tank when it was just a full tank a couple days ago and I havent driven that much. Any insight on what this might be? thanks.

The problem may be in the exhaust system, such as a bad flex coupling in the header pipe, or just be caused by a fuel filter that needs replaced. Now the fuel filter replacement is easier (and cheaper) then an exhaust leak to fix. But if you have noticed an increase in engine noise suspect that you have a leak some place between the engine and the front O2 sensor.

Q:the light came on 3 days ago. and today the heat and air wont come out of the regular vents it only comes out of the defront vents no matter what mode its set to come out of. The oil, transmission, steering, and brake fluids are all full. does anyone know what is wrong with my jeep?

First off, get the codes read.Auto Zone will do it for free. The vent problem sounds like a vacuum leak.defrost it the default position for the vent doors if vacuum is lost to the control head.

Q:i wen to advanced auto parts today because the check engine light on my 2002 nissan sentra has been on for a while, they did a check and told me that i had an evap leak and that i would have to take it to a mechanic so that he can run smoke through it and find out where the leak is. how much does this usually cost (i mean for them to use their machine to find the leak and then to fix it)

I also have an EVAP leak. I was told it could be a variety of causes. 1. Loose gas cap- this is the cheapest fix and worth trying first. 2. EVAP Canister broke, hose cracked 3. Purge or vent solenoid defective 4. Vacuum leak at engine. I am interested in understanding the cost as well.

Q:I have a 1992 Geo Prizm (same as a Toyota Corolla). The battery and alternator were replaced last March. The problem is that since then the battery and brake indicator light flashes on the dashboard intermittently. Sometimes it will come on for 2 minutes and not come on again for a month. Other times it flickers for half an hour every time I am driving. It seems a lot worse in the cold weather or when the car has been sitting for days without running. I noticed that when it does flicker on, the headlights dim slightly. What is going on? Any ideas?

My automobile did a similar ingredient. Had the alernater examined and the guy reported it may could get replaced in a twelve months or so yet OS sturdy interior the propose time. It wasn't. It took a crap some hours later. replaced the alernater ran tremendous

Q:I just bought a used 2000 Chevy Blazer 4WD. The service engine light was on and they (i took it to auto zone) ran the diagnostics check on it and told me that it was the EGR Valve. They said first take it off and clean it with intake valve with carb cleaner and a wire brush. I did that and it came back on. So the next step was to buy a new EGR Valve. I went back to autozone and bought one, came home, and put the new one on. the light was off only for about 10 mins then it came back on again. However when i had the old EGR valve the light would go off every now and then but then it would always come back on. Im not sure if there is a short in any of my wires or what else it could be. What should i do next?

Q:When I try to start my car, the engine doesn't even rev, the car just makes kind of an electrical noise and the Theft System light comes on. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Does your car has an after market alarm or auto start? Your ignition cyl switch could be worn out. Also is your battery full charged reading 12.9 volts?.

Q:How do I correct this? I did get gas 3days ago and the other I day I had the hood pop‘d when it was raining but i needed to to add ani-freeze (spelt wrong) b/c it was low but we go that fixed now.

Hay the misfire could be due to many things such as leads,spark plugs,distributer cap but unable to tell you why check engine light is on.

Q:The little yellow check engine light I guess it is came on yesterday in my 00 Grand Caravan, wondering if anyone might know what causes this. The manual says possible emissions issue, or auto transaxle?

The most common reason is an oxygen sensor is going bad and needs to be changed. It can also come on if the gas cap was off while the car was running or the gas cap is not tight enough. Take the car to Autozone and have them scan the computer to find what codes were stored. That should tell you what caused it.
