Q:My car, a Mercedes 1996 C280 has a check engine light on. I‘ve looked at the common problems first like checking the oil, but everything seems fine. I want to find out what the problem out myself without having to spend the money. I heard that I can input a code and the number of times the dashboard flashes is the answer, but I have no idea how to do anything like that.

It depends on what tire is blown. Most of the tires that come apart like that are recaps, and they can not be used on the front wheels. The rear wheels are duals, meaning that there are two tires next to each other. Most times the truck will continue to a safe spot (off the road) and call a tire service to replace the tire. If they are close to a service facility, they may continue to drive to get there! With a dual axle trailer, there are 8 tires in the rear (4 on each side). The trailer can travel with one flat or blown tire for a good distance.

The SRS airbag system does a self test every time you start the car. You need to repair the problem before the system will turn the light out. Time for the dealer and their scan tool to find the problem by reading the SRS codes. The auto store code readers only do OBD II codes and not SRS codes.

Q:grand cherokee limited V8Problems:1) Left brake light is not working when the park lamps are on and aslo rear left park lamp goes off at same time. When the park lamps are off everything works fine. As far as the Brake light issue my first guess would be a faulty connection with a Grounding wire. They tend to be hooked to the frame or Body of vehicle in various places. A loose one or disconnected ground wire. Will cause this winking out trouble. Another way to notice this effect is if you can see any lights that seem somewhat dimmer than another. particularly a tail light lamp or park lamp. If so the dimmer one can be the side thats is not getting a secure ground. When this occurs. the lamp can still lite but it is now lighting by having the power of another lit bulb drawing the power throuh it. The climate control system might be a Stuck control door / or a solenoid controling a door inside the plenum of the Air duct system. But if you have the most recent version of a new vehicle. several items like this can be having troubles due to a Computer Module not talking right with the system. I Test drive For Ford Motor in the Desert of Arizona we do a lot of Climate Control evaluation. With luck it may very well be a simply piece of Debri blocking a control Door Inside the ducting from moving.

if an advanced auto or autozone is near ya,just go there and have them use the code puller they have.it wont cost anything and will tell you exactly what is wrong.it can be bad plugs,bad throttle position sensor,bad o2 sensor,or something else entirely.the obdii system will tell you

Q:My dad wanted to know how to get this hitch(roughly boat-shaped/ a rectangle with a triangle on the front, with two wheels) that he attatched to the back of his toyota takoma pick-up truck to show brake lights as well as turn signals when he brakes or turns.The attatchement hitch-thing has lights and what-not and my dad mentioned something about an output and electricity outlet to and/or from the truck.no idea. Q:i have a viper alarm/auto start system in my 88 crx and it stoped working.i was pulling my insterment cluster out and thats were it was located and i unhooked everything so i could pull my cluster out.after i was done i put everything back the next morning i tryed my auto start and nothing my alarm is still working.its just my auto start i dont have the manual or anything beings that the arlarm came with my car when i bough it.any help would be great thank you.

Auto-start has lots of interlocks and any one of them will keep the starter from working. My daughter's has error codes that blink on the parking lights (hers is saying the disable toggle switch is off, but she can't find the switch). You will have to search for the user's manual for the model you have to decipher the code.

Many problems can cause the check engine light to come on. The white smoke from the exhaust may be due to a problem with the engine management system, or coolant leaking into the cylinders (the last problem would be very expensive to fix). It may or may not be related to the check engine light. Try going to an auto parts store which, for free, may hook your car up to an analyzer that can display the diagnostic codes. That would tell you why the light is coming on. Note: the comment in another answer to this question stating that only a mechanic with special equipment can detect engine faults on a BMW is wrong. Any scanner can read and display basic OBD II codes. A local Autozone did that for my 2004 745li for free, and stores of that kind can often find why the check engine light is on by doing so. BMW dealers and indie shops have equipment that reads the proprietary codes, but the expense of doing that may be unnecessary.

Q:ok, I have a 97 Chevy cavalier 2 door 2.2 L, and the cigarette lighter doesn't work. (Which I need to charge my cell phone and run my radar detector). Is there any way I can get that power port to work again? Some way I could run something from the battery through the firewall or something?Thanks in advance!

I have wondered that too actually, I think it may be because on the outer sides of the rear windshield it is a bit curved, actually the whole thing (on most sedans) is slightly curved, so a wiper wouldn't be making direct contact throughout, which obviously wouldn't wipe away rain. I'm just guessing, good question though.

Q:Right after everything was replaced I noticed the clock, radio, and auto locks weren‘t working. That got fixed. Now I find the auto start isn‘t working. The remote lights up when I press the start button. The switch in the car is on, the car just doesn‘t respond. Ideas?

Sounds like it needs reprogramming.
