Q:My spark plugs and wiring and tubing on my car cylinder (99 Plymouth neon) were drenched in oil. The problem got fixed. or so I thought. The people at advanced read it on their machine before it got repaired and said cylinder 2 misfired. When driving it it surge and kinda hesitate when accelerating. Check engine light came on and off. drove me crazy. After the car got repaired, same thing (a week later, after getting off of the interstate). I even got an oil change 4 hours after it got repaired! What‘s wrong? I‘d like to have a good idea what‘s wrong before I take it back to the shop and/or probably causing it. Bad spark plugs, oil pump cruddy? Help! I‘m hyperventilating.

Hopefully the problem is only due to the fault code(s) needing to be cleared. As your car is post 1996, this can only be done with an OBD 2 scan tool. Most any auto parts store can do this for you if you do not have this tool. You can try the old method to clear them by disconnecting the negative battery cable for at least fifteen seconds, but it might not work due to the fact of the newer type diagnostic system. On Chrysler products after 96, all cars went to the new OBD 2 system, but Chrysler did leave in the ability to check most codes with the old method of Key On, Key Off to read them on the check engine light. The only problem with this is the old method does not read all the codes possible on the newer computers. It still may require the diagnostic tool to check to see what codes are found before clearing them. Some other problem may have been noticed.

Q:had dead batt now it‘s gone crazy when i went to jump start it the alarm went bannanas but hear the problem bought the truck used and had no idea it ean had an alarm to get it to stop the noise i cut the horn/siren now the blue light flashes all the time never flashed b 4 and its makeing a quite clicking noise like every 30 seconds .so with no remote what would you do btw its a 1999 burban

is it an after market alarm or is it factory fitted to the car? If it is factory fitted you should be able to get a remote from the manufacturer, if not, your gonna have to remove the alarm system. can be tricky because there are heaps of wires hooked up to the control module.

Q:Well, here is the extent of my deal. I got last month a Chevrolet Malibu 2002. I noticed that , progresivelly more and more the turn signals on it were not functioning for some ammount of time. They would stop working when on the road for some time and then turn themselves on again either later down the road or after I stopped and parked. I am talking about both the lt;- -gt; and the lights themselves on both sides.I took it into an auto shop last week, they charged me a $135 for an extensive diagnostic. They checked wires, fuses, bulbs and took apart the steering column. Once in the steering column they said the multifunction switch was bad and it needs to be replaced to fix the problem. I happily did so especially since they have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on repair. Ended up being charged for part, labor and so on over $450.After I got out of the shop I noticed that the switch when pressing down and up on it felt incredibly tight wheares it was loose before.

You answered your own question when you said the shop has a 12 month, 12000 mile warranty on repairs.

Q:Why is this?What i have done so far:-Replaced gasket(i think thats what its called),spark plugs and wires-changed transmission fluid , done oil change.Im am considering doing a fuel system cleaning and the guy at Jiffy lube said something about my coolant/radiator.My heat/ac works great, havent had any problems.If I do the fuel cleaning and change the coolant, will this get rid of the service engine light.The car works great otherwise.

Q:I have a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria and when I started the car all the lights flashed [headlights, interior lights, dash lights] then went out. Now my headlights are not working nor is the turn signals. All I get when I turn the headlight switch is the interior dome light flash on and off. There is three positions on the headlight switch [off, parking lights, and on] and when I move it into either position in either direction there is a quick flash of the interior dome light. No headlights flash they just don‘t work, just the dome light and the light under the hood when you have the hood up. Any ideas?

Turn off the auto headlamp mode (see your manual) and that may fix the problem (see service bulletin). Component Description: 75. Are you talking about DRL (Daytime Running Light) system? If so a trip to the dealer and they can hook up to their scanner and re-program to turn the DRL feature on. The DRL can be turned on by hooking up the SCN tool and configuring DRL in the Smart Junction Box (SBJ). DRL are turned on by the duty cycle which gives a lower voltage to the bulb. The duty cycle is when a transistor is turned on and off very quickly to achieve a lower voltage (ie: 12v X 50% duty cycle = aprox 6v) In the Ford Manual, it reads: When the ignition switch is in the run position, the headlamps are not on (from the auto lighting system or manual control them the headlamp switch), the trans axle is not in park (P) (auto trans) or the parking brake applied (manual trans) the SJB provides a pulse width modulated voltage to the low beam headlamps. this illuminates the headlamps at a reduced intensity. In the pinpoint test, the manual asks Is the SBJ DRL configuration enabled? Set to enable to turn on the DRL. This should take no more than 15 minutes and no charge if you have a good relationship with your Ford Service Department.

Q:Ok, this morning the MIL light just came on. Yesterday I noticed that the air conditioner kept switching between economy and the button that looks like it has a curved arrow on it (just above the economy button, the one that is on when the AC is COLD), but didn‘t think anything of it. Well, after I noticed the light I started to check the car. I left it to idle, and noticed that the cooling system reservoir tank was boiling water. It was odd, because I looked at the gages in the car and neither the oil or water thermostats showed the temperature above normal. I‘m thinking maybe an issue with the thermostat, but I don‘t know what to think about the air going back and fourth between those two cycles. The air that came out in economy was REALLY hot, so it made me think a sensor was kicking the ac off for some reason. I‘m not a car person, and would love some advice. I‘m already looking into getting the car hooked up to one of those diagnostic tools. Thanks! :)

Go to an auto parts store and plug in the code reader. The AC has an auto shut off when the engine overheats. First thing put a few gallons of distilled water in the car in case you need it. When the engine is cold refill the water. I would guess you have a water leak or the water pump is bad, the water boils and overflows. Be careful, you could blow your engine. Check the oil for any watering down, also any white smoke means a bad gasket. Again that problem could ruin the engine. I had a water leak on my 98 A6 and the oil and water temp did not show any problem, also the water would not leak at idle, only while under pressure from driving. a

Q:96 silverado 350 4x4, this morning on the way to work had the cruise set at 60, hit a hill and it downshifted a gear and started to bog down a little so I gave her some more gas and it cleared up, and happened a couple times just going down a flat stretch, the service engine soon light came on, I‘m guessing its the fuel filter, but would the fuel filter being bad cause the service engine soon light to come on? Or is it something more than that? Thanks guys
