Q:I have a 2001 chevy cavalier. Yesterday, when i was driving to work the service light showed up on the dashboard. Today when the light turned on. I heard a clicking sound and saw the headlight flicker and then the service light turns on. If i start driving with the heardlights on, the service light doesn‘t come on . Any ideas what the issue might be?

All of the auto part stores I know of can only do a generic code scan of power train codes. I think you will have to go to a mechanic to have your body control module scanned for codes. If I were forced to make a guess here I would think you are having a problem with your daytime running lamps system.

You will have to get the code(s) checked in the PCM and BCM to see what has been caught and is acting up. Most of the problems associated with this car's theft system were related to a voltage drop inside the ignition switch. The only fix is to replace the ignition switch in the dash. If you have aftermarket alarms or auto start devices installed, that can also cause a ton of grief.

Q:I just purchased a 2007 BMW 335i and was wondering how this may be done. I know I can turn them on by turning on my parking brakes. Also, I can run daytime running lamp bulbs but those look kind of ugly. I just want to have my coronas turn on when my light switch is turned to automatic. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The coronas, normally called angel eyes, ARE the DRLs. They come on whenever the parking lights (not parking brakes) are on. They can also come on independently if you have it set up in either i-Drive, or if you don't have navigation then by using your instrument cluster menu system. It's all in the owners manual. Placing the headlight switch into the auto position will turn on the headlights if it's dark enough or if it's raining, which then turns on the angel eyes since the parking lights come on too. If you have DRL turned on as mentioned above, they would be on all the time and then the headlights would come on once it got dark outside. The parking lights are the orange ones on the very outside of the headlight assembly. If you have DRL enabled in whatever menu system you have, they are on all the time regardless of the headlight switch position. The angel eyes are run by a single bulb for each side of the car, a 35 watt H8 to be specific. The inner headlights (what used to be high beams) are the cornering lights and are operated by a 55 watt H3 bulb. These come on individually when turning if the headlight switch is in auto (and it's dark). They also both come on when backing up if in auto. The outside lights are the high and low beam lights, and should be a D1S bulb assuming you have xenon lights. These lights also pivot when turning if switch is in auto (and it's dark).

Q:well i am seeing that everyone is saying that we are only required to pay liability. basically pay the damages you inflict on the other car. The Auto Insurance system is backwards then. Why are we paying to cover the other persons damages, wouldnt it make more sense if the person pays X amount of money every month to cover their own asses? that would mean that if i chose to not have insurance and i happen to get in a wreck then that was my choice and if the person i hit was smart enough and payed for insurance to cover themselves then what would be the problem with that?what are your thoughts?

I think it is unconstitutional. Accidents are just that accidents. They are not there to help you but to pay for the car when you finance it. They really do not care to cover for your losses. That is why after you pay off your car they say you do not have to have comprehensive.

Stop by an auto parts store and have them test the battery and charging system. You could have a loose or corroded cable or connection, or the battery or alternator is bad. Even new parts can be faulty.

Q:I HAVE A 1996 FORD EXPLORER, I HAD THE AUTO ZONE COMPUTER THING AND IT SAID I NEEDED A OXYGEN SENSOR SO I BOUGHT ONE, HAD IT PUT ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. NOW WHAT. Hey I agree with robert h usually there's up to three 02 sensors. 1 or 2 up stream (ahead) of the converter called pre-cat 02 sensors and 1 usually after or post cat 02 sensor.They did the same thing to me on my dodge and it was actually the post-cat 02 not the pre-cat 02 that they told me.And unplugging the light is not going to work. OBDII stores DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) which turn on MIL (malfunction indicator lamp) check engine,etc., in the computer.If you disconnect the neg. battery terminal and turn the key to start and hold it(neg. still disconnected) for 5-6 seconds it might clear it, but if you go for emissions test shortly after it will show a tamper error in the system.Automatic failure.Basically not enough start up cycles/miles for the system to re-learn.See if they were using a code/reader or a scanner at autozone.If they use a scanner it should give 02 readings.I believe Milli amps the pre-cat 02's voltage jumps around alot .200/.900 were the post cat seem to be alot slower and not much fluctuation in voltage stay more on the high side.900/.700 I'd lean toward a post cat 02.(u didn't say which one u changed) See if they pull another code(It's free).good luck

Q:Went to the dealership where I bought my Hyundai Tiburon. My ABS light stays on. They brought it to the back and told me it was my speed sensor on my right rear tire or front tire and it needed to be replaced. Does this sound right? I figured it would be an o2 sensor. Also, they are wanting to charge me $300 to fix it. Are they fairly easy to fix if I did it myself?

There are a number of sensors on your Explorer. Such as; due to emission controls, you may not have tighten the gas cap or sometimes a sensor can get wet set off the warning light or low oil or ? Since you already paid Auto Zone, see if they can help. In the future, you would be better off going to a good Ford dealer.

Q:The service air conditioner light on our 1991 Cadillac sedan deville 4.9 comes on when I turn the air conditioner on. The electronic climate control will not let me turn on the heat or the ac. It just defaults to economy. The ac at this point no longer blows cold air. I push the off button and eventually the light goes out. Do you have any thoughts on what may be causing this? Those auto climate control systems are often a real pain to properly diagnose and repair.and costly. To start with, you should check any fuses for the system to see if they are blown and have the a/c system checked for proper chargeundercharge or overcharge can cause the system to stop working. The main PCM computer is also involved in operating the HVAC system depending on engine load and throttle position, engine temp, etcso you should have it tested for trouble codes.local parts stores usually offer this as a free service. Any trouble codes might lead to better diagnosing. A shop would have to test to see which system sensors, relays or other areas are not getting power or malfunctioning or diagnose a problem with the main climate control unit. Parts and labor can get pretty spendy so many people opt to switch out the automatic climate controls for a manual control system if the car is worth keeping long term or alter the climate system to perform more manually.bypassing the computer controls with on-off switches mounted to the instrument panel or console mounting platform.
