Q:I just got a 99 toyota corolla from my sister in Massachusetts. The check engine light is on and has been one for awhile. She took it to two auto shops who said it's the light malfunctioning and the engine is fine. It passed it's inspection in Massachusetts but today when I went to get it inspected in NY they claim it's an automatic fail and that something is in fact wrong with the engine.Is it an automatic fail in NY just because that light is on? He says it's gonna cost me 350 dollars to fix what's wrong but I don't think I trust him. Thanks in advance!

I lived in Louisiana, We have a 1996 tercel with 320,000 miles and the engine light has been on since about 100,000 miles, I'm surprise thats the only light bulb that we havn't changed yet ! we took it to get it check out but they said it was bad sensor that said it's polluting to much. unless we moved to California or somewhere like that nothing to worry about. We still drive it everyday and get 40mph !

This means there is likely something wrong with your emissions system. Gas vapor leak, or catalytic converter or the like. Ot it could be just a sensor. A 1999 is now considered an old car so it is probably more than just a small sensor.

Q:I‘m trying to install a RS1200 remote starter in my 2006 Dodge ram. I have everything working on the truck. A/C comes on, radio and lights all start, the whole nine yards. The only thing that wont start is the engine. All of the other stuff only stay‘s on for about 10 sec before it turn‘s off, restarts and try‘s again and repeats. I verified all the wires on the truck are correct. I was thinking the truck has an anti-theft system but i wasn‘t sure. If it does do i have to buy a bypass module for it to get it to start?

Contact Dodge with your vin #s and see what unit was factory and did your have 1 or a aftermarket system. If all else fails contact a stereo install center.

Q:continues to come on and the diagnostic test at Auto Zone said that an error has occurred due to the gas cap being left off. the only problem is that the gas cap is on so the diagnostic test is wrong. what is really causing the check engine light to come on??

If that is the case then the gas cap is not sealing, or holding pressure like it should. So unfortunately it would need to be replaced.

Q:This code is coming from my wife‘s 1998 Toyota Camry (3.0L V6).The print-out that I got from Auto Zone says this:Evaporative emission control system vent control circuit faultProbable causes:1. Open or short circuit condition2. Poor electrical connection3. Faulty CCV vent control solenoidIf anyone has had any similar codes from their car, please let me know if it needs to be checked out right away or if it can wait a week or two.I know, the sooner the better.but realistically, we can‘t get it checked out right away.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Q:2005 Volvo s80 T6 Premier I Just got Subwoofers hooked up into my car and they had to undo the battery and what not for the wiring and now my car gives me a message saying SRS Airbag Service Urgent the guys told me it was because they had unplugged the battery and it should go away if I drive about 30miles, I‘ve driven over 100 and it‘s still there and the Volvo Dealer wants 110.00 to fix the light. Is there any other way possible to get this light cleared and since that light is on does that mean if I get into a crash the airbags will not deploy?

So I can turn my accent lights on and off from a distance like 30' or so. kinda like wireless locks on most doors now days? also do they make a modulator for these kind of lights that will make the lights flash in a sequence? if so where can I get them?

. I think it might be illegal to tamper with your lights, but maybe that's only in Canada. But I imagine any shop that can install a car alarm could help you. ...for maybe $400. NAPA or some auto parts store might have some module you can just solder in but it's unlikely.

Take it to dealer and have them run a smoke test on evap system. Only way to find out for sure where leak is.I assume you already checked gas cap right?

The battery light is actually the charging system light. If it is on, either your battery, alternator, voltage regulator, or some wire or connection in between is not doing what it is supposed to. Could be as simple as a corroded battery terminal connector. You can have your battery and alternator tested for free at most auto parts stores. The ABS light comes on when there is a fault with your antilock braking system. When the light is on, it means your ABS is turned off because of one of many possible issues. One of those issues could be low battery power to the ABS controller, so the charging system issue you have could be causing both. The ABS light in no way can make your car go slow. But. A bad battery connection would prevent the alternator from properly charging the battery, and when the voltage at the battery comes up low, the alternator kicks in and tries to charge it which does put a draw on the engine. Wiggle the battery connections, they should not move. Clean the battery terminals and connectors. Make sure the main (normally) red wire on th ealternator is tight. Make sure the other - normally a clip on connector is plugged in. Go see a mechanic. Good luck

seems as though a lot of people trust auto zone to do diagnostics.all they do is read the screen.as a person trained in computer diagnostics,i know that what the screen says isnt always whats REALLY wrong.different systems can fail causing OTHER systems to read out ofparameter and set a light.auto zone is there to sell parts,which is what will happen if you let untrained people diagnose your car.go to a reputable shop.pay the extra money and have it done right the first time.ive seen people spend hundreds on stuff they didnt need,then come to me and a $0 part,or a bad connection fixed their car.
