Q:2003 hyundai sonata:My car engine stopped humming when I was waiting for a light and I wasn‘t able to move. The battery was fine (I put my hazard lights on) and the gas was fine. However, it was on drive and I wasn‘t able to shift past neutral to put it in park and turn off the car, and the brake pedal was locked (I couldn‘t push down)After about 10 minutes (after calling AAA and someone for advice) I was somehow able to shift it to park and turn the car off. I then restarted the engine and everything was fine. Is this because of the anti-lock braking system or is it some other issue?

Antilock brakes have nothing to do with it- those just prevent the wheels from locking up. Is your Check Engine Light on? If so, you can go to Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and have then use their computer to check your computer for free. Write back here with what the finding is. There is a chance this is due to your alternator, so have the folks at Advance run a charging systems test.

Q:I have a 2000 honda accord ex and the check engine light is on, i took it to advanced auto and they couldnt find the code but a few days later i took it back because it was still on on they said something about a o2 sensor or circuit then a couple days later i took it to the dealer i bout it from and they couldnt find the code what should i do cuz i have to take the car in for emissions

You will need to have the converter replaced. The cat code is po420 or po430. You cannot just re-set the light and go through smog test, the code will be stored in the computer. There is no way around passing until you replace the converter and turn the light off. Also, nobody uses a tailpipe tester on a 2000 year vehicle, all they do is hook up a scanner and read for codes.

Q:I was driving to work this morning, and my engine light came on. I have a 2001 Cavalier 2.2L 4 Speed Automatic with a little over 80,000 miles on it. The car was running fine, but then the light came on, and I freaked. I opened my manual, which said one of the problems could be due to my fuel cap not placed on properly. When I got back home, I checked, and sure enough, it was loose. However, when I went out later on, the light was still on and has not gone away. How long will it stay on? Should I go to the mechanic just to be safe even though my car is running fine?

Q:I have to put my key in the little keyhole next to the gearshift to get it to reverse. My brake lights don‘t come on but my headlights do. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks for any help.

The way the shift interlock on your car works is that for the control to know that you have your foot on the brake in order to take the car out of Park, the system looks to 'see' if the brake lights are on. So the inop brake lights are the reason you can't take it out of Park without using the emergency key release. In almost 100% of the cases, the problem is with the brake light switch. It is at the top of the brake pedal lever under the driver's side of the dash. if you look under the dash and follow the brake pedal up to the top you'll see it. You'll need to have that switch replaced. You should be able to buy the switch at any auto parts store; they are usually about $20. If you are going to have someone else do the repair, call around and ask for quotes to replace the brake lamp switch. Hope that helps

Q:ok took car to Auto Zone due to engine light being on. At first they said it was the Temperature sensor the one that tells the fans to go on and off. But now the light still on. I disconnected the battery but light still stays on. So took it back to Auto Zone were they tell me it something to do with my Cat converter or my Oxygen sensors are giving bad reading. But before took it to another place I had them put there computer on and two errors came up. CAT converter and temperature sensor. They told me not to worry about the CAT converter and go ahead change the temperature sensor and the light should go out but that not the case. What do I do. I don‘t got munch $$$$ right now. between paying bills. should I take it to the dealer I bought it from since I am still paying on the car? They have a shop. Bought the car the car 1 year ago this coming January. Can anyone tell me what the most common thing that goes out oxygen sensors or CAT converter? The car only 4 years old with 70,000 miles on it.

If the code was something like the catalytic converter failed to reach it peeks efficiency level that is a code telling that the down stream o2 sensor has sent a signal to the comp system indicating improper exhaust fumes were detected after cat.Now if you had a upstream o2 sensor error code too then the upstream o2 sensor maybe causing the odd reading after the cat converter. If you can get the code/codes pulled again and list them and better yet find a shop/shops to give you a written free estimate listing the code and the fault being the cat converter this would help especially if the error code is 100% indicating a cat converter fault.A good dealership should replace the faulty cat converter free of any charges bec it still should be covered under factory warrant.Note just be careful bec some dealerships may try to charge the customer for the scan to detect the faulty warrantied part.You shouldn't have to pay anything if it's the the cat converter that is gone regardless what some dealerships may say.Shop around and if you have to call the manufactures main customer service hotline. Does your car has an after market alarm or auto start? Your ignition cyl switch could be worn out. Also is your battery full charged reading 12.9 volts?.

If you have no contract he should have told you when he gave you his price for the job. If it was not spoken of before he was given the job then no it is not his. Also check with the town or city council, it could be part of his permit to do the job that he remove the old pipe for disposal.

Q:I have a 2003 VW Passat Turbo engine,My mechanic told me the only code that came up after checking it was system too lean and that altitude could be a probable cause, I‘ve been driving the car back and forth for California to Flagstaff, AZ. He told me to pour injector fluid in it, and after filling up the tank and adding the cleaning injector fluid, I‘ve been running the car for about a week and the tank is getting low, I turned it on earlier and the light was off. Would that have been the problem then? Or should I get it checked again? He said that sometimes they get dirty and cause that light.

Rather than steel, the majority will be made from cast iron, which is more rigid - certainly the plate (or frame). The strings are usually tensile steel, with copper wrapping in the bass section. There will be some brasswork also.

Q:i've done a complete tune up wires plugs cap rotor oil change also replaced distributor with one from a toyota changed the tranny fluid and filter i haven't done the o2 sensor yet but was wondering if it came on for other reasons .now i can reset the COMPUTER and after driving 125 miles then the light comes back on .any advice would be very appreciated

Take your car to autozone or any other mechanic shop that offers to check your engine light for free. They will tell you what is wrong and reset the code. They will sell you the part you need and you should be set.
