Q:61K on the odo., gas cap securely set, used only supreme fuel, auto zone code P 0171. The guy told me that O2 sensors last around 50K mi., and that if I replace it, the computer would anyway had to be reset. Car works OK. Any clues ?
You need to be really focused when on 2 wheels, birds, small animals, and even large bugs are of no interest to a car, but can be a fatal distraction to a person on a motorcycle. Also, when on a MC, you have to assume that everyone else on the road Can't see you!!!, so you need to be prepared ahead of time to react accordingly.
Q:I have a 2000 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 and 4x4. Sometimes the ABS and Brake lights come on at the same time and sometimes they don‘t. I had it scanned at AutoZone and no codes showed up. It stops just fine and I can‘t seem to find any issues with the brakes. Anyone know what could be wrong?
Code readers generally only read check engine light codes, so that's why you have nothing there. As for the problem, I'll start with the obvious. Have you checked your brake fluid level? If that's not the problem then you have to make sure the ABS system is working properly. Best way to tell is to gain a little speed on gravel then slam on your brakes. If the petal tries to push back at you and feels like it's pulsing rapidly, then your ABS system is functioning properly. Move on the the next step. If instead your tires lock up and your truck slides to a stop without resistance in your petal, then you have a fault in your ABS and should consult someone with better knowledge of later model ABS system. So, your fluid level is fine and in good condition (yes, some newer cars and trucks will trip the brake and or ABS light for having old, broken down fluid) and your ABS system is working properly. The last thing I can suggest is bleeding you brakes, including your ABS lines. Air in your brake lines can trip these warning lights and can cause unsatisfactory braking ability. If all these suggestions don't lead to positive results, find an auto shop that advertises free or really cheap mechanical diagnoses (like Meineke or Brake Team) and at least you'll know what the problem is and if it's something you are able to do on your own or have a professional fix.
Q:My transmission pump went and my car got fixed. None of the lights were on. I got the car back and now the check engine light, ABS, and TCS lights are all on on the dash. What would case this? Thanks!
Was that tranny repaired by the Soup Sandwich Transmission Shop? Soup sandwich is a military term for F--ked Up! They obviously boogered something up when they dropped the tranny. You need to have the car physically inspected by a 3rd party shop and they can look at the wire harness and the numerous sensor plugs on the wire harness that maybe have been unplugged or damaged if they didn't disconnect the wire harness from a secured strap on the tranny housing. If they didn't disconnect this wire harness when they dropped the tranny, they might have broken several engine sensors when the wires were yanked by the weight of the tranny being lowered. Or they may NOT have secured the engine with a cross brace bar that hold the entire weight of the engine when they remove the tranny so it doesn't fall down or fall back against the firewall. If the engine falls back against the firewall, it can crush the wires inside the wire harness or completely cut them in half when the weight of the engine pinches them against the firewall. Might want a new car dealership to do the inspection and diagnostic in case you need to go to small claims court later to collect some cash. If this was a reputable tranny shop, they will make it right without being sued. Good Luck!
Q:2000 Pontiac Gran Prix Service Engine Soon light stays on How can I find out the problem?
Have a GM experienced tech scan it. Experience counts when dealing with SES light on
Q:I ‘m trying to step up my game just a bitI have a good eye, but I‘m just not getting POP I‘m looking for in my pics:( For the next few months I‘m on a limited budget so I have to work with what I have until I can upgrade. Here‘s what I‘ve bought/been given or gifted:Nikon D5000Nikon SB-400Nikon18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6Nikon 55-200mm 1:4-5.6Sigma 28-105mm 1:2.8-4Cowboy Studio Photo Studio Umbrella Four Continuous Background Lighting Kits 600 Watt Output1 grayish brown backdrop1 bluish back backdropAperture 3 photo processing softwareI‘ve been working hard at taking my camera off the auto setting but again i‘m just not getting the right tones and I‘m having trouble setting the lighting up to get optimal usage.Again money is tight so I have to work with what I have, but not so tight that I can‘t make a few small purchases.Any suggestions??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
Sell 18-55 and SB-400 and get SB-600 instead! Get a cheap lightstand for SB-600 so you can use it off camera and shoot through the umbrella. Also get a reflector. Use custom WB as advised above. Use sb-600 as a key light, use your continious sourses for baclground lighting and use the reflector to bounce some light back onto your subject and you got yourself a simple, but effective setup!
Q:The check engine light has been on constantly since I bought the car, and I have been told by more than one person that it‘s just due to a catalytic converter sensor so I left it alone. Recently, I‘ve started getting low on oil, probably because my miles are so high (178K) and I‘m burning it, so I put oil in about once a week. Just this morning, after driving about 10 minutes, the check engine light started to blink and did so almost constantly during my remaining 15 minutes of driving. It felt like it just didn‘t want to go any faster. Once I got to my destination and the car was parked but still on, it felt like it was humming, or jerking or something. Once the car was off, something didn‘t smell right but I couldn‘t figure out the smell. No smoke was coming out of the back or front. I‘m worried about even driving to an Auto Zone or something similar without knowing the problem. Can anyone help??
The blinking check engine light means you have a serious misfire. Low speeds are not a big problem when the light blinks, but freeway driving can melt the catalyst in the converter in as little as 12 seconds when ignition is causing the misfire. Your 11 year old converter was probably okay before the blinking, but it is questionable now. You need to know what cylinder is causing the misfire indication, and Auto Zone can do that for you. There will be a code of P030x, where x is between 1 and 4 and is the cylinder number at fault. Replacing the spark plugs is a good place to begin (actually, you don't need to know which cylinder is involved to do that). If the plugs don't make the light stop flashing and make the car run normally, you will get into the injectors. That is more complicated.
Q:There is water vapor in the car taillight
There is little water vapor is normal, if more likely to be caused by bad lamp seal. First look at the back cover is not covered, you can use the hair dryer blowing
Q:I was told it might be the fuel cap or a hose thats leaking so I bought a fuel cap. How long would I know if the fuel cap was the problem or go to the next thing. FYI I‘m trying the cheaper fixes first.
Take it to Advance Auto where they will can your car for free. The check engine light is an indication that diagnostic system in your car has recognized a possible problem and has triggered a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). Advance Auto should scan these DTC codes for free if your car is newer than 1995. Once they scan it, then you may be able to stop guessing. By the way, the gas cap thing is often over reported as a problem. Some of the newer cars with highly pressurized fuel systems can be affected if the gas cap is loose and therefore may trigger a trouble code. Sometimes it's just wishful thinking that the problem is as simple as a gas cap. but every once in a while it is the gas cap.
Q:Just curious. I see the auto flush toilets and urinals (red blinky light where the flush handle used to be) quite a bit nowadays. How does the auto flush mechanism get its power? Is there just a battery or two in there? I don‘t see any electric running to them.
Batteries it is, those red blinky lights don't ask for much energy.
Q:They auto shutoff once cars started, even in darkness; No handle to alter auto-lights in car;Tried unhooking battery to reset electronics, no luck.06 Volkswagen Passat 2.0t
ZZ is right. I would add that the windshield may have been replaced with the wrong windshield, blocking the rain/light sensor on the rear view mirror. Without a properly operating light sensor, Auto Headlight operations are not going to happen. If the headlights won't come on with the Headlight switch in the On position, I would look at the switch, the car battery, or the charging system.
