Q:My sister is pouring a sidewalk alongside her house, and wants to have bare foot imprints of her and her two daughters. Its not my thing, but is this safe? I don't think wet cement can hurt you, but is it healthy to go barefootin' in, haha?
wet cement has alkali which is a strong acid, it will burn and peel your skin and turn it into a dry, cracked mess, yes i'm speaking from experience..... if they make a footprint and wash it off IMMEDIATELY it will be fine
Q:i hire a contractor to replace and removed the old siding form my house. i have seen siding install before and there is normally an woord frame or plywood that is underneat the siding. the contractor stated that is no needed. and based on that he refused to continue with the work. i then proceeded to put a stop payment on the downpayment what are my options now! can i hired someone else to do the work without bein held liable for his expenses?
if you install cement siding you DO NOT need plywood behind it, all you need is roofing felt for a moisture barrier, the siding is attach to your studs,i finish my house and garage with hardie board siding and it looks great, you might call that contractor and apologize, good luck.
Q:Firstly, regarding concrete testing, is Mass Per unit Volume and Unit Weight of concrete the same? (they've both got the same unit kg/m3)In the lab of concrete testing, I was required to calculate the cement content (kg/m3), aggregate content (kg/m3) and free water content (kg/m3). I have the weights of cement, aggregate or free water, however, I don't have the volume of the concrete. How can these be calculated? Can someone please enlighten me? Thank you very much.
ok you need the weight of cement, fine and coarse aggregates, and water. then you will need the density of each. for cement, the number varies between 2.8 and 3.1. For aggregates, I'm not sure, I guess it's around 1.7. water is 1. you can consult a good book about concrete technology. I have portland association book. But most of my friends use Neville's.
Q:It has four cement walls but the bad thing is there is a water pump in the pit, so area is limited inside, like an area 5X5, and it has the floor of the house as it's quot;coverquot;.
No it is not to be safe in a cement well because the wind can be funneled in the well and you will die for sure if any debris gets down there.
Q:Has a body ever been found with cement shoes?
The shoes themselves aren't cement. It's a coined phrase that means to put the victim's feet in a container(s) of cement and let it dry and harden. I've never heard of a case where they found this, but you sure hear a lot of this on tv...especially old-time crime dramas.
Q:My basement shower is basically just a cement slab with a drain and fiberglass walls. What's a rough ballpark cost estimate to tear out the cement shower and replace it with a modern glass stall and/or a tile shower?
800.00 to skys the limit thats a pre engineered pre fab glass enclosure installed
Q:Where I live, winter doesn't have much snow. There is a small ski place with a snowmaker in the city that's about a 15 minute walk from my house. I've been walking there for the last few days and was worried that me walking on the sidewalk for 15 minutes a day with mith my board boots on could damage them. Can it?
Thats like asking if wearing basketball shoes on cement will ruin them yea.... eventually after a LONG time dont worry dude they arnt like cleats
Q:My parents have a family of life size cement deer that they want me to bronze. They figured I could find instructions on the internet but so far I'm not having a lot of luck. Does anyone know of a resource that can help me out? (I'm used to painting ceramics but never a bronze finish before -- and never anything that big!)
There are various paints that might be used. However cement can be a problem when it comes to paint, because it is acidic. There is process called acid washing or maybe it's acid staining a process for applying color to existing cement ,primarily floors, that you might look into. Google cement colorants, cement stains etc. Most of the information available on the net applies to industrial application, floor coloring ,architectural applications. Working with cement can be hard on the hands so use some rubber gloves.
Q:I am 28 years old male with a total knee replacement. I got a TKR 2 years ago. Do you know how strong bone cement is? Can you also tell me how much damage you can do to a knee replacement in 2 years. Thanks. Best answer gets 10 points gladly.
I only know how strong bone cement is because of my mother. Her broken hip was put back together with a new socket and she seems to be doing fine with the bone cement. To your 2 question. Well it all depends what you are doing with your leg that you had the replacement on. If I were you I would not go over board with it and do things you shouldn't do.Like playing heavy sport with it etc.But normal activties like walking, swimming is ok.
Q:For my graphics class**Do I simply apply an even coat to one of the pieces I want to glue, wait for it to dry, then apply it?I've been looking for videos. I don't want to mess this up. Also, how do I use this particular tool to smoothen the paper?
When I've used rubber cement, I've applied a coat to both surfaces to be glued, let it dry until tacky ( when it no longer looks shiny and is slightly sticky to the touch) and then put them together. Putting them together is the tricky part: the rubber cement sticks right away, and it's hard to re-place whatever you're trying to glue, so you have to place the pieces correctly on the first try. I've never used a tool like that to smooth paper (correction: I've never smoothed paper, but when I've used a tool like that I've used it to make neat folds). I would guess the unpointed end, but past that I have no idea. Sorry. If you use the rubber cement properly you can just smooth the paper with your fingers as you glue it down, and you shouldn't need to use a tool at all. Good luck!
