- I think what you are talking about is galvanized sheet steelIt is just sheet steel which has been dipped in molten zincWhen the zinc hardens, it cyrstallizes into the pattern you are seeing that makes it look sort of like it is compressed chips of metal stuck togetherThe zinc coating is supposed to make it rust resistant, but it doesn't work very well if it is exposed to acidic conditions.

- With a complex piece like that there is no normallyIt's aluminium welding so that's something most professional welders cannot doIt has a lot of joints, some of which may be awkward to accessUnless all of the parts have been accurately designed and cut then it's inevitable that some pieces may need trimming if too long or even re-making if they're too short or cut at the wrong angleThe wall thickness makes a difference to how long the welding will take and the materials (gas and wire) costsCosts also depend upon whether every seam needs a continuous weld or just spot/plug weldsLast, but not least, in a by no means exhaustive list, is where on this planet you're located as labour rates vary as do the currencies you'd need a quote inIf the plan is from CAD software and then input into CNC machinery to accurately cut all parts then you may be able to get a price for the whole jobIf not then there may be additional unplanned work in which case the job will be charged by the hour, typically in half hourly incrementsAgain, I can't give you any typical labour rates as I've no idea where you areTo summarise, you'll only find out by taking your project to a few specialist engineering/metal fabricators able to weld aluminium and then obtaining quotationsIf they know you're shopping around then they're unlikely to muck around with dishonest pricing, but you can also try to push for a better price depending upon your negotiating skills.

- Not sure what this has to do with Drawing and Illustration but why don't you go down to your friendly home center or hardware store and look at the prepared lengths of iron galvanized pipe, rigid copper tubing, or aluminum tubing and make one yourself? Especially with the heavier pipes, you may have to sand out the inside at the ends and put tape over the threadsAluminum may be too big for your use and copper these days may cost too muchMuch of the cost of shipping is due to the length - long things cost more and get damaged moreEven $20 is absurdly cheap if they do anything at all to the tubing.
