Q:if you had snow and all the snow is off your roof and the house nex store has snow do we need insulation?
That is very observant of you. Yes this could indicate that you are losing more heat than normal through your roof. Though, you do want to be careful in the placement of any new insulation, you will want to avoid any vents that are there for ventilation of heat and moisture in the summer and any recessed lighting fixtures as to not cause an overheating problem with them. This is a good investment and it will pay you back in heating and cooling cost for years to come.
Q:ROOF INSULATION how to add more insulation on the outside!!!?
You could have foam roofing installed over the existing roof covering. Look up "foam roofing" on the Internet.
Q:Should a two story home have insulation under the roof in the big closets ?
yea. it might cost you some to put it in but it will save you a lot in the future with heating and air conditioning bills
Q:what is the best insulation to use blown or fiberglass over an already fiberglass insulated roof?
Your best angle is to go with blow in fiberglass. ownes corning and Johns mansville both make good blow in fiberglass. Menards and Home depot in our area will lend you a blow in machine for free but make sure you have 2 people to run it and that you have a TIGHT sealed face mask for the guy in the attic along with safety goggles. No way around it either that guy in the attic is gonna get itchy, so expect that now. I put blow in cellulose over my attic fiberglass bats to bring it up to R-50 but i regret it now. I should have stuck with fiberglass. I did some research after the fact and there is some flammability issues with the cellulose i used and on top of that it is seriously dusty so i cant store anything in the attic space anymore. Cellulose was cheaper and the "green" choice but if i could reverse time I would have gone fiberglass blow in.
Q:My upstairs ceilings are not insulated and on the other side of the 2x6 rafters is the roof.?
Suggestion: install the insulation with the foam channels but leave the center section (roof ridge area) open from end to end. At each end you can install a static vent or an active one. Depending on the amount of space you have you may be able to install a power vent.If you can send me a diagram with measurements I can give you a more definitive answer.
Q:Foam insulation spray roofing, Greenest way to build?
And the question is??
Q:I want to install a new roof, what are the best insulation options?
The new metal roofs offer both the durability and the insulation. Metal roofs come in many shades and are made to reflect the heat away from the house. The insulation in these roofs are often the highest R factor.
Q:What is the difference between roof and loft insulations?
Potentially that the roof itself is insulated on the underside. A loft insulation could be that the base or floor of the loft/ attic is insulated. Otherwise, I'm not sure.
Q:p/t deck on a commercial rubber roof do we need closed cell insulation under deck to protect rubber?
You don't need it to protect the rubberoid roof however considering the relatively low cost of the closed cell foam it would be cheap insurance to add it. A more pressing concern would be the drainage details.
Q:Without loft insulation ,the roof space is full of air.Why does this not keep the heat in?
Because air can circulate, (it's called convection) and transfer a lot of heat. In other words, air alone is a very poor insulator. .
