Q:Build your own solar panel, scam or truth?
Electric panels are not feasible for most people. They are two super thin layers of polarized material. When the sun hits them electrons move from the first to the second layer with an amount of force. You can't duplicate that at home. What you could do is setup solar heating panels and run them against a Stirling engine. This technique is typically more efficient than normal electric panels anyway in industry. They have heat on one side and cold on the other to generate force. Hook that to any generator to produce electricity. If you are successful building a home system, blog about it, others will want to know precisely how you did it.
Q:LED Lantern Charged via 6 volt solar panel?
If it has a 6 volt battery- is it marked 2 volts on an external plug? If so, there is a resistor inside to drop the potential the battery sees. The battery itself could be slipped out and recharged easily from your 6 volt panel. Just determine how much current (in Amps or Milliamps) the panel produces nominally and divide that into 4 and add one fourth of that length of time to make up for system losses. This will tell you how many hours it should charge assuming your starting voltage of the battery is above .5 volts. and the panel is at 3 volts potential or higher. So if your panel puts out amp at 0AM, you would charge for 5 hours. 4 divided by is 4 and one fourth of that is so 4 plus is 5. It is a little more involved than that, but as a rule of thumb. Also do not discharge tha lantern to the point of no light output. LEDs are efficient, but their current will add up. If it is suggest to be able to use the lantern for up to 8 hours on a charge, stick to that value. Lead acid batteries have best longevity when discharged only to 80 percent capacity. Once battery is charged- disconnect from charging source.
Q:DIY home solar panels?
Did okorder.com/ . This will absolutely save yourself!
Q:kilowatt solar panel help?
You would be amazed how often I have answered this question. The answer is that it depends on your latitude and local weather . Let's see if I can give you enough information so that you can determine the answer for yourself. A kW solar panel is rated at kW when it is exposed to a solar flux of kW/m^2 (called a peak sun hour). There are readily available tables of effective peak sun hours per day by city (see Reference ). Let's use Fairbanks, AK as an example (it is the first line of the table). Fairbanks get an average of 3.99 of peak sun hours per day on average. So your panel would produce 3.99 kW*hr per day on average.
Q:background of solar panel?

Q:What is the best solar panel?
your initial outlay for a solar panel is very large in terms of output.......somewhere around $4 a watt......ie you want a panel that will run a 00 watt lightbulb? $400.00 please. enough panels to collect enough energy to recharge a battery bank to run the house overnight? well, I've been doing a lot of research for my condo project in St Thomas and it comes out to 0-20,000 US $ for a bedroom apartment. Now, after about ten years you have made your investemnt back.... and there are a lot of government rebate programs that lower the cost.. what I have found is solar is nice, but depending on how far north you live you may only have 4 usable hours of light a day. you may very well be better with a wind generator.wind blows all the time after all...Bergy and SouthWest Windpower make two good small home units...start there
Q:What are your opinions on solar energy?
I think that solar photo-voltaics have improved tremendously in the last few years but are being promoted due to the simplicity of installation. Most of the residential energy needs is in heating water, residential heating and air-conditioning, all of which can be provided for with less expensive solar thermal panels. Once the base line energy needs of the household has been met with solar thermal, a much smaller photo-voltaic system can be installed for lighting and to run the pumps in the solar thermal system and the fans in the absorption air-conditioning unit powered by solar thermal. Since solar thermal is less than /0 the price of solar photo-voltaic, this should dramatically decrease the capital needed. Also remember that lower price solar photo-voltaic systems are on their way, development is going very quickly, the commercial units you buy today will probably be any where's from $4 a watt to $0 a watt but $ a watt systems have already been developed, just not widely available yet. You may also want to consider using solar shingles instead of solar panels for your photo-voltaic system.
Q:Solar Panel Help Please!?
I will give you the tools to answer your own question. Here is the solar resource map: rredc.nrel.gov/solar/old_data/nsr... Use it to look up the hours of peak equivalent sunlight per day in your area. For example, let's say it's 5 hours / day. Then per year you get 365 x 5 = 825 hours of sun Your panel is 20 watts, or 0.2 kW So the energy produced per year is 825 x .2 = 383 kWh You'll have to use the proper numbers for your own area, of course. Anyway, you can take that 383 kWh and determine how much it would cost at local electric rates. Never know, on some islands, it's $.00 per kWh. Check with your local electric company for rates.
Q:Solar Panels Energy Theory?? ENERGY?
No. okorder.com/... Since then they have only improved. CdTe efficiencies have increased, partly by reducing material use (particularly the depth of the CdS layer)
Q:Solar Panel Question?
It depends very much on where you live. If you live in Nevada, Arizona or California solar panels might be a good idea. If you live in Canada don´t expect to get your bill to zero... 800 kwh/month means an average consumption rate of about 2500 watts. 6 panels would cover that. But your energy consumption isn´t cosntant and nor is your energy production from the solarpanels. If you go off to work during the day when your panels produce the most then you probably produce excess electricity. Check with your utility if it is possible for you to sell off that electricity by putting it on the grid. Then you buy back electricity when you´re watching tv and surf the web at night. You loose money and electricity like this (or by using batteries as suggested above) so I would underdimension my solarpanel capacity. It makes sense if it is cheaper to just buy electricity at night. The retailer and the manufacturer should have charts showing how much their 65 watt panels really produce at different times of the day and the year for your location. Oh, and I´m sure there are ways in which you could reduce your electricity consumption. Smart lights, energy efficient lights are easy ways.
