Q:I have these ceramic bowls with bright color glazes: yellow, orange, lime green, blue. If I try to microwave something in them, the bowl gets scorching hot and the food stays cool. What might be in my bowls that‘s absorbing microwaves?
Moisture in the ceramics is driven out by firing, but this isn't always done completely. If there is still moisture in the ceramic when it is glazed, the glaze will trap the moisture in the ceramic. Water molecules are polar, and the microwaves cause them to rotate back and forth, which is the atomic motion we call heat. If there are water molecules in the ceramic, they will heat up. There isn't anything you can do to fix it.
Q:I‘m taking a ceramics class on saturday mornings at a local college.Would it be worth taking notes? or would it just get in the way.
Absolutely take notes. Keep a sketch book for ideas and the like and take notes in that.
Q:I know invisalign is like twice as much as regular braces and only has a 50% succes rate so im not getting them. But what about ceramic braces ? Do they cost more and if so how much more? Are they good for people who need significant treatment (unlike invisalign)? Tell me what you know plz thanx
i got ceramic braces consult your local dentist thou cus they diff prices on diff areas. they may stain though if u dont take care of them but not as expensive as invisilign. goodluck.!
Q:PLEASE HELP!
using in production or just using it - like a cook will use ceramic bowls for putting food in, but is not involved in making them. Or somebody may sell ceramics but not make it. on the fabricating end. potter, dental ceramic technician, ceramic engineer, sculptor, factory worker in ceramics tableware production, product designer for ceramic products would be a few.
Q:ceramic hair irons functions as a quick-heating material?
Try Seafoam. A great product for fuel additive.
Q:in ceramics product
shivering: slivers of glaze shear away from the pot crazing: network of hairline cracks (glaze and pot have different thermal expansion) dunting: hairline cracks indicating glaze has been cooled too quickly pinholes: pinhole sized holes in glaze look also up : blistering and crawling
Q:I‘m 33 yrs male living in India. I‘m about to have 6 of my upper teeth crowned after root canaling them to improve my smile. This is purely for esthetic reasons. My dentist recommends metal fused to porcelain crowns for strength and durability. He says all ceramic crowns have a high rate of failure due to breakage. But since my upper front teeth are involved and I‘m undergoing this procedure for purely esthetic reasons, I prefer all ceramic crowns. Please help me to make a decision as it is a big investment and can‘t really be undone later on. Should I insist on all ceramic crowns or let the dentist decide since he knows better? Thanks in advance.
I agree totally that PFM is better then all ceramic for durability reasons. If you think about it all porcelain is just like your china you eat off, can break under pressure. However people get them up front everyday, but it depends on what kind of force is placed on the fronts while you are chewing. The reason people choose all ceramic is b/c sometimes at the margin where the Crown meets the gums there is a dark line of metal shine through, not usually a big deal unless you have a high smile line. I truly believe that people should worry more about function then esthetics's, but we are a cosmetic surgery world so maybe you could ask them to check with their labs to see if they offer PFG, porcelain fused to gold. Gold is your strongest dental metal and is not dark so you would not have that margin problem. In the end it is all your decision you a paying for them and have to look at yourself in the mirror, the doc does not. So in the end do what makes you happy! Good Luck!
Q:I just bought a ceramic round brush with the porcupine bristle thing (or whatever) , and I bought it because it says it would help straighten, smooth, and silken it. How do I do that? And how do I do it with a blowdryer?
AS you dry the hair the heat from the blow dryer heats the ceramic center of the brush. You roll your hair the way you want it to lay as you direct the heat of the dryer to the hair/brush. You may want to dry the hair a little first then finish it off with the ceramic brush. That way you can spend maybe 10 minutes styling the hair and your done. Good Luck to you.
Q:What are the pros and cons of ceramic body-armor versus Kevlar fiber?
Kevlar prevents penetration by bullets but does not guard against impact. For example: if you are shot (with a normal bullet) while wearing kevlar, the force of the bullet impacting your body will (at least) leave a *massive* bruise, but the bullet will not penetrate the kevlar. I.e. the bullet will not put a hole through your body and your important internal organs. Similarly with an explosion. The force of the explosion will do damage, but any projectiles propelled by the explosion should (at least theoretically) not penetrate your body, should only leave impact damage. Ceramic body armor guards against impact (not completely, but to a very great degree). It is not flexible like kevlar, so - any projectile that does not penetrate armor will not leave any damage - an explosion will result in impact damage, but **much reduced** - basically your body being banged against the armor instead of the much greater damage of your body being banged directly by the explosive force The cons of body armor are weight, flexibility, cost. It's considerably heavier than kevlar. It's not flexible as is kevlar. It's more expensive. Note that most police-style bulletproof vests combine both, typically an armor plate inside a kevlar wrapper. The impact force of a bullet can kill even when the bullet does not penetrate kevlar, so the armor protects against the impact force of a bullet.
Q:I walked into ceramics class today only to find that my piece exploded in the kiln :( I was so sad because I put in so much effort and time into it. I have to work on another piece now and I know this sounds silly but I‘m TERRIFIED to work on it. I‘m afraid that this one will explode too when I‘m finished no matter how much I thin the walls of the clay out. Is there anything extra I can do to make sure there are no air pockets? any tips? help [
Knead the clay you're working with like there's no tomorrow. If you think you're done kneading, knead some more. While it makes working with the clay easier, it also eliminates any air bubbles in the clay. Also when kneading on plaster, make sure none of the plaster breaks into your clay. Plaster in your clay will make your piece explode in the kiln as well! Good luck! :-)
