Q:can solar power panels installed at home provide enough electricity to power house hold appliances?
Yes, but people usually balk at the cost. Right now, the photoelectric materials are rather expensive. So, most people figure it is not worth spending thousands of dollars and will gladly pay hundreds of dollars a month to the electric company. Most estimates are that it takes at least a year and a half to two years to recover the cost of the panels by how much one can save on their electric bill. Most persons would rather pay out that money in little increments to the electric company instead of all at once when having their home built. Just a side note of trivia: The ability of certain materials to turn photons of light into electric current or the photoelectric effect is what Einstein was awarded his Nobel Prize for, not Relativity.
Q:Are solar panels actually efficient?
They're more efficient than nothing, or fusion for that matter since fusion hasn't gone anywhere in the last 30 years. Since most energy is used during the day time when its light out solar panels will do pretty well. In most habbital places on the planet its light out for a good part of the day while wind doesn't blow steadily in most places.
Q:Im a bit confused about what a solar panel is?
A two KW system would be made up of a number of solar panels. Panels used in residential and commercial systems usually run in the range 50 watts to about 200 watts. There is a HUGE amount of information available on the internet about solar panels and all the components of solar electric systems. All you have to do is search on the internet under solar panel. It's very safe and easy. So just do it.
Q:Numbers behind Solar Panels?
For comparison, 36 of these make a normal 2V x 50W panel. Note they are not tabbed. This means you have to find a way to connect them yourself. The tabs are probably spot welded on by the suppliers. A supplier below has kits of these with tabs, as needed to connect them together. These are not suitable for grid connect, because the higher voltage needed makes do it yourself panels a dangerous and litigious thing to have on your roof. Maybe you could buy a smaller pack from the link below to compare tabbed and untabbed and work out what to do. Your power calculation is a bit incorrect because the sun is only present some of the time. The 36 cell module would produce 50W when square on to the full sun. The sun may be out for around 2h a day in some places and times of the year. However it is the equivalent of 5h full sun, because of the changing angle throughout the day. Look this up on the internet for your region. Temperate zones may be a lot less. One pack in your link is 36x3 = 08 cells. Thus 50W per pack x 5h a day gives 750Wh per day and 274KWh/y. In reality it will always be less because of regions, weather, clouds, dust, inefficiencies, aging of cells.

Q:Solar Panel Installation?
Wires from panels go to controller input terminals. Controller DC battery terminals to battery so that the controller will protect batteries and split power as required by demand to the inverter. Output DC on controller to inverter. Output AC or outlets on the inverter to AC appliances. One thousand watts is not very much capacity. It will keep your computer running and a lamp to read by. It won't run major appliances. A hair dryer is typically 500 watts and could not be run by this system.
Q:how can i build my own, cheap, solar panels at home?
Build from scratch, sorry your way over your head. (mine too). There are lots of companies that will give quotes on doing what your looking for, but plan on spending 20 to 50K depending on where you live and what you need. I don't know about where you are, but My hydro bill is almost half delivery charges. Therefore I could cut back by 99% on the usage, and still only have my bill come down by less than 50%. I understand you desire to lower costs, but unless you do a big change(lots of outlay) your savings will be small. By all means shut off lights your not useing etc. there are other ways of lowering your household bills better way is solar heating. But this also depends on where you live. Q:How to install a solar panel system?
If you are grid-tied, then a standard solar electric system will always feed back into the grid if you are not utilizing more power in your home than is being generated by the solar panels and inverter system. It is possible that a grid isolation device designed to prevent direct back feeding is available, but haven't heard of one in common use. New laws in most areas of the US are now mandating that utilities allow grid-tied alternative energy systems. Double-check you local laws. Sometimes you can't take the utilities word for truth--most will automatically say 'no' and will only relent when you show up with the law in hand. Unfortunately, some utilities have figured out another way to shut down alternative energy pioneers--they demand multimillion dollar insurance policies covering damage that their equipment could sustain from your little PV system. Technically, they are still in compliance with the law, they just make it impossible for a homeowner to meet their requirements. If you are getting the runaround, go to your state representative for help. It's amazing how contrite those utility people can be when a state senator (or even US Senator) has just sent a letter asking them why they are stonewalling a law-abiding and well-meaning citizen. Q:Powering an air conditioner via solar panels?
There's no need to connect only the A/C to solar, nor is there a need to use batteries. Both of those problems are solved with grid-tied solar. The solar electricity system works alongside your regular, and the A/C just plugs in normally. You never need to worry about switching. During the day, if the A/C is drawing power, the solar goes into that, reducing your draw from the electric company. If the solar generates more than the A/C needs, the meter is driven backwards. At night, the meter runs forward again. For example, the meter may read 5000 in the morning. By evening, maybe it reads 4975. At night, it creeps back up to 5005. When the meter reader comes, you would be billed for only 5 kWh. That's the general idea. Also, consider whether you can insulate your home more, and whether you might want to change out your air conditioners for new, DC inverter mini-split units. Those can use a fraction of the electricity per BTU of regular air conditioners.
Q:Increase Solar Panel Efficiency?
If you have a way to keep silicon panels cool, that really helps. On a hot summer day, our array was down 20% in production. I sprayed a hose to wash the panels, and for a few minutes, the power spiked to 20% ABOVE normal. The usual thing to do is mount the panels exposed to the wind if you can, or at least 8 off the roof otherwise. A few lucky souls with access to free stream water on their property have been known to use water cooling under their panels.
