That's 1/4 of a light year (the distance light travels in a year). 1/4 of a light year takes you out of the solar system and past the Kuiper belt (the collection of objects orbiting far from the Sun), but won't get you to the next nearest star (Proxima Centauri), which is 4.3 light years away.
- Q:I have a 99 OLDS Alero and the problem is as followsWhen I step on the brake peddle the braking lights on the passenger side wont light up while the middle and driver side lights would light up. The regular lights that are on them still work, all three of them, but only when I step on the brakes nothing happens. - the brake light bulbs use dual filaments one lights up for running lights and then the other lights up for brake lights (thats why it gets brighter) if a fuse was bad all the brake lights would not work. i would pull out the bulb and switch it with a known good from the other side, if it lights up then buy a bulb and replace the bad one.

- Light is electromagnetic radiation, made up of photons, which can be described as a pair of alternating electric and magnetic fields. In other words, light is made up of light, and is not made up of other components. The alternating nature of these fields is what determines the frequency of the light, and that, plus the speed of light, determines the wavelength of the light. Light propagates in a vacuum. It does not require a medium for tranmission (as air serves for sound transmission). While the movement of charges generates electromagnetic radiation, the propagation of electromagnetic radiation does not depend on the presence of anything.

- The Light Bulbs have two filaments in them. One is low light and the other is high light. So the low would be your taillight and when you use the turn or brake, the high light filament will light up unless it has broken or burnt out. It is normal to only have two lights on each side as the Turn/Brake light. So you only need to replace one light bulb. the Left outside.

- Given that light-speed is constant, then no. HOWEVER......as light passes thru various media is slows to a speed given by v = c/n. v is the velocity, c is the speed of light in a vacuum, and n is the index of refraction of the media. In essence this retardation could be thought of as a friction, but mechanically speaking it is not. Friction is the physical contact of one object with another where material is exchanged or removed causing heat to be generated as a by-product of the interaction of the bodies. Light interacts with media but thru the electromagnetic field. This isn't necessarily a 'physical' contact, but energy is exchanged and the speed does change, so this is similar to friction and as close to such a thing as you can get for light. Hope this helps.
