Q:Would it be possible to use a lens or a mirror to focus light onto a solar panel in order to make in more efficient? And is something like this already being used? It was just a thought and I haven't spent much time on it, but I figured I'd ask.
yes it is being done. i've seen adds for such a system. on the other hand, if you had a 5 sq in Lens focused on a small cell, and a 5 sq in cell, they'd be about the same. in fact, the cell might be a bit better because (A) there wouldn't be any loss in the Lens, and (B) it might be that the solar cell would use some frequencies to which the Lens was opaque. in addition, the cost of solar cells is dropping, making the cost of the mirrors or lenses uneconomical by comparison.
Q:What is the warranty period for solar panels?
The warranty period for solar panels typically ranges from 10 to 25 years, depending on the manufacturer and the type of panel.
Q:How do solar panels connect to the electrical grid?
Solar panels connect to the electrical grid through an inverter, which converts the direct current (DC) produced by the panels into alternating current (AC) that can be used by homes and businesses. The inverter is then connected to the electrical grid, allowing any excess electricity generated by the solar panels to be fed back into the grid and used by other consumers.
Q:Can solar panels be used for powering a theme park or amusement park?
Yes, solar panels can be used for powering a theme park or amusement park. Solar energy is a clean and renewable source of power that can generate electricity to meet the energy demands of such facilities. By installing a sufficient number of solar panels, a theme park can reduce its reliance on traditional grid electricity and lower its carbon footprint. Additionally, the large open spaces within theme parks often provide ample opportunities for installing solar panels, making it a viable option for sustainable energy generation.
Q:Solar panel for battary charging
What you are stating is that the battery you have will operate the UPS for about 2 hours before it is drained past the point of no return (technically 2.82 hours, but that would be a dead battery - most well-designed UPS systems cut off when the battery gets below about a 30% charge so that battery is not damaged. Lead-Acid batteries have about a 0%/month self-discharge rate if there is no load connected. The very best systems are as low as 3%, the worst are over 20% - and all at a 'normal' temperature. So, you will need a maintenance charger of about ten (0) watts or so - amp will be more than enough. And about any solar panel will handle that much with the proper charging connection.
Q:Hi, wanting to set up the most basic solar panel system for a cabin in the woods that has enough power to recharge four 2V car batteries during the daytime (i am assuming; we want to run a mini fridge maybe a stove and a few lights at night off the batteries and be able to run it all just off solar during the day) It also needs to be able to power some simple tools during the day... Experience would be absolutely amazing since alot of the info on solar paneling is either really dumbed down, or ridiculously confusing. As of right now I am looking at a 3 panel (45watt in all) solar kit that needs a 300w inverter.... is this sufficient for my power needs? I am just a little perplexed, thanks so much!
ever looked at the light from a 45 watt bulb? it's true that in a cabin, if you're in the right place, you can read from it. however, assuming that you get 6 hours of sun, you can run your light for 4-5 hours. and nothing else. if you're hoping to run a stove, you're going to need several hundred watts. not sure what tools you're thinking of, but i don't know of many that run on 2v DC. (not sure that i know of a stove that runs on 2v DC either, but you can look that up.) for tools, you might want to consider a gas powered compressor and air tools. that'll give you the strength that you need. yes, i know that's not what you were thinking, but pretty obviously you're going to need to do a bit more thinking. even a minifrig is going to use considerably more than 45 watts. and that would be 24 hours a day. remember, a minifrig has considerably less insulation. you can't save much and per pound, it takes more juice.
Q:how does solar panels work?
Solar panels collect solar radiation from the sun and actively convert that energy to electricity. Solar panels are comprised of several individual solar cells. These solar cells function similarly to large semiconductors and utilize a large-area p-n junction diode. When the solar cells are exposed to sunlight, the p-n junction diodes convert the energy from sunlight into usable electrical energy. The energy generated from photons striking the surface of the solar panel allows electrons to be knocked out of their orbits and released, and electric fields in the solar cells pull these free electrons in a directional current, from which metal contacts in the solar cell can generate electricity. The more solar cells in a solar panel and the higher the quality of the solar cells, the more total electrical output the solar panel can produce. The conversion of sunlight to usable electrical energy has been dubbed the Photovoltaic Effect. The photovoltaic effect arises from the properties of the p-n junction diode, as such there are no moving parts in a solar panel.
Q:Tell me complete installation I have one 50Ah battery two 80 watts solar panels about 30 meter DC wire i charge ontroller and 000watt inverter. How i hook two solar panels to charge controller to battery then inverter?
Wires from panels go to controller input terminals. Controller DC battery terminals to battery so that the controller will protect batteries and split power as required by demand to the inverter. Output DC on controller to inverter. Output AC or outlets on the inverter to AC appliances. One thousand watts is not very much capacity. It will keep your computer running and a lamp to read by. It won't run major appliances. A hair dryer is typically 500 watts and could not be run by this system.
Q:There are places in the US where it is sunny almost all the time, like the southwest. But if we covered an area of the Sahara with solar panels, the sun exposure with the area would generate enough energy for the whole US at least. Plus, I would imagine it would be a great source of income for those countries. Why isn't this a topic under discussion or even mentioned between countries' governments/in Congress/in politicians' viewpoints?
It takes companies or citizens to desire to switch their power source. Yes some areas build solar or wind abilities to create power. Its not super cost effective but getting there. Its new technology, that use to be super expensive to make panels, and now is more affordable. In todays world economy, even though it would help down the road, noone has the money to redo their power source right now, its cheaper to just pay the company providing power. All new things take time to be implimented, studied, planned, and permitted. There will be a slow increased usage, but its not like tomarrow everyone will ask for solar power and companies invest to make it available, just cant happen that way. For your Sahara synario, each country can deal with its own power needs, to bring the power from the Sahara to another country is not doable, each desert area could power its nearby areas, when the need and desire arises. In most continents of the world, individual countries are more concerned with basics, clean water and food, and most dont do a good job at providing that, solar power to poor nations, although its a good thought, just isnt a concern now, its clean water and food, medicine is more important. The big picture warrants more diverse ways to get power, but the world is not as one, the countries do not discuss their needs with other countries. Some countries come to the rescue of others on their own if allowed to. Someday, hopefully the world will be more eco friendly, and peole wont starve to death daily
Q:ok so when a solar panel is marked as a certain wattage dose that mean it makes that much in a day in an hour or constant, dose it still work at night or what ? is it worth it or is it more of a pain? can some one tell me what all the watts and volts mean ?? and can some one tell me what a kilowhat is in refrence to some thing i understand like howmany loads of laundey can you do wt a watt? i need help understanding this stuff?
