Well you are stating the solar panel powers but no mention of their voltage??. Yes, they should do the job. I suspect the lack of blocking diodes may be your problem, assuming you have done the homework. You have 6 battery cells at 2 volts each, that is ...err..2 volts, assuming you have them connected in series. Count the number of cells on the solar panels and maybe we have a starting point. One solar cell is 0.6 v, in this case you would need a minimum of around 30 cells (physically it will probably be 32 to make it 'square'), you need a fair bit of over- sizing in that direction. Solar panels are resistive when not illuminated so must have a blocking diode included to prevent the batteries from discharging into the solar panels at night. Check that each array has a blocking diode included, if not add them. Solar power is pretty useless unless you have loads of sunshine. You seem to have gone through a bit of trouble and expense on this one, so give me some basic facts and I will help you through it. Update 7 Dec If the batteries take 20 hours to fully charge and there are 0 hours of sun each day then the batteries will be fully charged in 2 days. The question was, can the battery be charged, answer is yes, it can. There is no mention of load. If the batteries are not charging there is something wrong.

Solar panels are not going to be able to run a pool pump 24/7. They will only produce their rated electricity for 4 to 8 hours a day. For the balance you will need a grid connection or a battery backup. Running the AC would require different power levels depending upon humidity, outside temperature levels, solar gain for the house, and insulation levels. An underground house in Maine will be much easier to AC than a Glass house in Arizona. First find the power requirements. If you had the existing equipment they will have a label with the power requirements or the minimum breaker required if nothing else. For example the pool pump may require a 0 amp 240 breaker while the AC may require a 30 amp 240 breaker. That would be 2400 watts for the pump and (30 x 240) 7200 watts for the AC or a total of 9.6kW each hour of operation. (max) You will next need to find the rated capacity of the solar panels. If each panel were rated at 300 watts then you would need 32 panels for the daytime use and perhaps more to fill in a battery backup. All the numbers are very rough estimates.

You won't get very far with THAT lash-up. First of all.. WHY would you want to use diodes to drop the voltage.. they DRAW CURRENT and that is something you don't have to spare. That draw of 4.5v@0.66A (660 ma) comes out to just under 3 watts. You DO KNOW that you can get that 4.5 Volts by driving a NAIL into the THIRD CELL in a 6 Volt wet cell battery... right? and for what you are doing, you have more current available with a 6 volt battery than a 2 volt battery. Anyway, you could use two 6 Volt batteries and tap them at the 4.5 volt point then tie them in parallel, but you could still use the 6 volt solar panel to charge them. Trying to use an inverter is just an exercise in futility.. With TWO of the LARGEST DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES you can buy at AutoZone running in Parallel and being charged by solar panels.. if you hook a 75 watt inverter to them, they will go flat in about 4 hours of use during the night. This is not rocket science. Back when cars were changing over from 6 volts to 2 volts, I powered up more than one 6 volt car radio off a 2 volt battery... when you grow up as poor as I did.. you get inventive. I later used the same trick on the 24 volt electrical systems the Jeeps were using, to power up clandestine repeaters in places where no repeaters should have been. About 25 years ago I was living in the Denver area and built up a 0 watt 2 meter repeater on a split channel and took it up to Mt. Evans during the summer and hid it in a pile of rocks. I used tone control, so we were the only ones using it and, as I said, It was a split channel.. so it wasn't on a regular repeater channel. That thing was still running when I moved from the Denver area about 3 years later and for all I know, It's still up there on Mt.
