Q:How do solar panels withstand harsh weather conditions?
Solar panels are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions through their durable construction and protective materials. They are typically made with tempered glass or other strong materials that can withstand hail, snow, and heavy rain. Additionally, they are designed to be water-resistant and have proper drainage systems to prevent water damage. Moreover, solar panels go through rigorous testing and certification processes to ensure they can withstand extreme temperatures, high winds, and other environmental factors.
Q:Are photovoltaic cells the same as solar panels?
Solar panels are covered with photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into electricity. So photovoltaic cells are part of solar panel. renewableenergyarticles.blogspot....
Q:I need to build a battery array to use with my solar panels I just bought. I want to be able to store enough energy to be draw from it at night, possibly around the clock. Is there a down side to using the deep cycle battery I bought from autozone and 6 or 7 more just like it, or do I need to get some other battery?
There are batteries particularly made for solar, such as the Trojan T05-RE . I think the RE stands for renewable energy. A deep cycle battery should work all right, although not quite as well. What you want to do is try out your setup first, with just one battery, and the panels provided. If this is one of those 45 watt kits, you may be surprised at how little energy you actually get from the panels. Increasing the number of batteries won't help, either - that's like getting a larger water tank, when you only have a trickle to fill it. If your goal is really to save money, the most cost-effective solar is the grid-tied type, with no batteries at all. That's what we have, and I've never regretted it.
Q:How long do solar panels last?
Solar panels typically last for about 25 to 30 years, although some can continue to generate electricity for even longer with proper maintenance.
Q:I jotted down some notes for my Technology and Architecture class and I'm trying to figure out what i meant when i said 'Treated with gases at extremely high temperatures.' I have NO idea what I was talking about :) Im trying to figure out if what I am talking about is about Silicon, Polychristaline, or a Solar Cell/Panel.
Let’s start off and discuss the three main types of photovoltaic (PV) panels: Monocrystalline Solar Panels - Monocrystalline cells are cut from a block of silicon that has been grown from a single crystal. These tend to be the most efficient, but also the most expensive solar panels. They have been considered the go-to panels for the last couple decades, and also boast being the oldest and most dependable. Polycrystalline Solar Panels - Polycrystalline cells are cut from multifaceted silicon crystal. They don’t come from a single piece of silicon crystal, but rather from many different crystals. These solar panels tend to be less efficient than monocrystalline solar panels of the same size. This means a 200 Watt Monocrystalline panel will usually be smaller than a 200 Watt Polycrystalline panel. Thin Film or Amorphous Solar Panels - These panels are not made up of any crystals. They are actually a thin layer of silicon deposited on a substrate or base material like metal or glass. Thin film solar panels tend to be the least efficient per square foot, but they are also the cheapest. The best application for amorphous panels is if you have a large amount of surface area and space doesn’t matter.
Q:How do solar panels interact with the electrical grid?
Solar panels interact with the electrical grid through a process called net metering. When solar panels generate excess electricity, it is fed back into the grid, and the homeowner or business owner receives credits for the energy they contribute. During times when solar panels do not produce enough electricity, such as at night or on cloudy days, energy is drawn from the grid to meet the demand. This bidirectional flow of electricity allows solar panel owners to offset their energy consumption and reduce their electricity bills.
Q:Can anyone give me a link to a website that sells really big solar panels? Enough to run a small cafe on entirely solar power.
I cannot offer a source of info, but... Solar power is great, but not ideal (yet). Currently, one-story buildings that have a rooftop totally made up of solar panels can only get about % of the power needed by that means. Additional panels will be needed.
Q:How do solar panels connect to the electrical grid?
Solar panels connect to the electrical grid through an inverter, which converts the direct current (DC) electricity produced by the panels into alternating current (AC) electricity that is compatible with the grid. This AC electricity is then sent to the main electrical service panel in a home or building, where it can be used to power appliances and devices. Any excess electricity generated by the solar panels can be fed back into the grid, often through a net metering arrangement, allowing the owner to receive credits or compensation for the excess energy produced.
Q:Interested to know if it is possible to install Solar Panels to run my Jacuzzi?Don't want to do the whole house just the jacuzzi anybody have any ideas Thanks
You can do this by isolating the jacuzzi, you will need a solar array adequate for the power draw of the jacuzzi, a charge controller, battery bank, off-grid inverter and switch gear. This is the expensive way to go--especially if you are planning to heat the water with the solar. A better option would be to heat the jacuzzi with solar thermal panels. It is plumbing instead of electrical, but the cost would be much less. If you still want to do PV (electric) solar, think about putting a non-isolated grid-tie solar array on your home. They are much cheaper, and if you think about it, it really does not matter if you use the solar electricity to run a light, a fridge, a TV, or a Jacuzzi, that amount of power is subtracted from your overall house power bill. Just size the array for the power output of the jacuzzi, and let the power meter do the rest. Your overall result will be the same and the system will be half the price, or less.
Q:How can solar panels be used for heating water?
Solar panels can be used for heating water by utilizing the sun's energy to generate electricity, which powers a heating element that warms the water. This process involves the conversion of solar energy into electrical energy, which is then used to heat the water, making it an eco-friendly and cost-effective method for water heating.
