On most laptops there is a function key that will lock the keyboard. You would need to pres the [Fn] key and the appropriate [F#] key. In mine the combination would be [Fn+F1] keys. If she shuts down to re-activate the keyboard she looses whatever she is working on Solution # 2 Hold CAPS LOCK and press the touchpad disable switch. Solution # 3 press windows logo key and letter L key at same time to lock or unlock keyboard (It worked for me) Solution # 4 Look to see if you have any key with Alt on it - regular keys - also look for a key with NumLck on it. To deactivate press and hold the Alt key and press the Numlck key. There was an artical I read in a magazine about assembling a laptop. It can be done, and the next time I need an upgrade, that is what I'm going to do. Apparently when building a laptop, you really don't have a lot of flexability like a desktop, but anything is better than nothing. I personally would go with the following for a gaming laptop. nVidia graphics card with at least 128 MB At least 1 GB of RAM 17 wide screen monitor is nice, but at least a 15.4 AMD processor. dual core if you can get one for a laptop.

tigerdirect has some really good deals that are cheaper then most places. People say newegg has good prices but over the years newegg has gotten pricier and pricier (just my own opinion as ive seen cheaper prices in alot of other places). As far as a good laptop prices range and it depends on what your going to use it for. Amazon might be another good place to look you might get lucky and find a new model that your looking for. But most places nowadays sell decent laptops at a fraction of what they were years and years ago. Obviously they wouldnt be the most powerful laptops in the world. Ive had a hp 6735s for 2 years bought it used. I saw really bad reviews online for the laptop it was the turion x 64 model not even intel core 2 duo. And to be honest with you to this day i still prefer that laptop over my macbook pro unibody 2009 and my asus republic of gamers computer for everything i need (except gaming). Its all personal preference so dont restrict yourself to a certain brand name or just because someone told you that it was more reliable. Ive used my hp laptop everyday for school, and work (trouble shooting as an IT at workl). Good luck on your search though. ps. ohh yah AVOID FRYS ELECTRONICS. yah i said it. i bought my first laptop at fry's electronics with a warranty years and years ago. BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. and the warranty? was a joke. AVOID FRYS. their prices might look appealing to someone that has never bothered to shop for a laptop. Trust me google it. Even the manufacture websites offer better deals then you would get at frys. You just need to be patient and wait for it to ship. But believe me its worth it, then dealing with the choices they give you at frys. Look around youll find something.
