Q:can you use power cable as your ground cable on your amp?
In theory, yes you can do this provided a couple things. I know it seems a simple question, and you may be fine but for safety's sake.... Power cable is usually 10 gauge braided copper. this should cover just about any amp, but as the current draw is thru the ground, this cable is usually 8 gauge and a much shorter run. If you are running a ton of power with this amp, you may want to just splurge and get yourself a run of 8 gauge ground wire, find a good solid ground and for god sake use star washers between the spade connection and the ground to ensure a good solid connection. I have seen many installs fail because of that little detail. A 10 g cable is probably good enough but to get it up to standards use an 8 g.

Purchase a warranty that covers accidental damage. If you don't want to do that, arrange your cables where they can't be tripped on easily.

That's fine for a temporary use situation. However, if you are going to be using this regularly in the same vehicle, I would recommend a more permanent installation using 4 ga power wire directly to the positive terminal of the battery. Make sure you install a fuse on that wire as close to the battery as possible. If the jumper cables are cheap and thin, or the contacts are coroded or not making good contact, this can cause the voltage to drop to your inverter and cause it to draw more current and possibly fry the power supply.

Soldered where ? Most ribbon cables are never soldered.. They are designed for push / cold-weld fit to connectors And soldering the cable risks melting the insulation between the cores in it (as they are not designed for heat) if you solder the motherboard, you risk damaging the wires (and vires) in the several layers of printed circuits (they are quite fine, multi layered not dual external visible only) I suspect you have damaged the cable (internally) update: from those pictures, it is clearly meant to be purchased 'as an already assembled' piece What I suspect has happened, is that there is a small sliver of solder etc (or dirty flux) between the tracks. Those are really low current, circuits, so does not take much 'leakage' to cause a contact to 'appear' closed. Repairing such things, often requires a very very narrow soldering bit and also fine solder / flux. I have seen most people use a microscope to do those repairs before - due to the likelyhood of small bits getting in the wrong place (and tracking unexpectedly occur). I'm not sure what's best for your actual laptop but I just had to order a new battery for my mobile phone and laptop the other day. The guy at the battery store told me it's better to charge it up, then let it run all the way down or as close as possible to empty before charging up again. He also said you should only charge them for as long as it takes to fully charge. Apparently batteries create a 'memory' from where you start charging them so that if you charge them as soon as they get to half full they'll 'remember' that eventually and as soon as they reach half full, they'll 'think' they're empty. Well that's what he told me. That's what's best for your battery, if I were you I'd just ring a computer store and ask an IT tech this question instead of asking idiots like us.
