Q:I have a 120 year old house w/ a flat roof, no attic and no insulation. I have a dropped ceiling on the top floor - drop is about 5". Ceiling tiles are not insulated. I plan on getting insulation and having it rest on top of the ceiling tiles.I live in Pittsburgh, PA where we get hot summers and cold winters. What would be a better insulation - traditional fiberglass or radiant? Radiant appeals to me since installation is easier, but if it won't be as effective, I won't do it. Thanks!
get cellulose. fiberglass will melt in you have a fire, then your house will burn. cellulose while it is paper, will not burn. it has borax and other fire retardant things in it.
Q:The house is a brick house, the kind of red brick house in the past, the wall looks quite thick, but still no noise at night neighbors next night to sleep, his family moved to hear the sound of things, often insomnia , And neighbors greeted, but inevitably there are voices, depressed dead, I sleep light, ask no sound to sleep, to death ... ... my family and his home are wooden floor, I do not know this sound Where did you wear the wall or the floor?
It is recommended that you add a fiberglass sound-absorbing ceiling - solid plate This board is often used in some low ceiling of the room, play the role of sound insulation, can replace the plaster board decoration, can block upstairs caused by noise, elegant appearance, Set decoration and function in one, serve two purposes. Using high-density glass fiber board, the surface composite paste made of decorative felt, the back does not handle, four to do the edge of this plate four sides straight, into a right angle, edge bevel. Suggestions can come here to see, I was using the material here, and feel very comfortable now ~
Q:has any one used corrugated metal (used comonly on barn roofs and in resturant decor). for a ceiling in a basement. ( will be in bar-living-game open area) want to have access and hate drop ceilings. planning on just screwing to joist. would like to know if you are happy with and if you have any pictures.
My best friends have a rustic country style decor and they've used corrugated metal ceilings in one bathroom and one bedroom--and they look fantastic! Both are painted, which I don't think you can do with that fiberglass stuff. Go for it. Theirs are also screwed to the joists.
Q:What signs on plastic products are non-toxic
HDPE high density polyethylene Common white vials, cleaning supplies, bath products. Do not use it again Cups, or used to make other containers. Clean is not complete, do not use.
Q:I have one of those fairly standard (US) ceiling light fixtures that is bowl shaped and takes two light bulbs. That thin tin foil layer came off and now the light bulbs radiate directly on to that fiber/insulation material. Is this a fire hazard? It is one of three and I don't want to replace it but I also don't want to replace the house and my family either if you know what I mean. Can I put some real tin-foil back in its place?
Most likely, the insulation is fiberglass and not a fire threat. However, the foil backing is to deflect light and heat downward, so it is best to replace, and generally easy to do.
Q:If you were a single woman with no man around, how would you fix a hole in the ceiling from water damage? And the roof? On a budget. Is this possible for a small woman to do this job by herself? Can someone give me step by step instructions? Photo of the damage attatched.
First you need to diagnose the problem of why the water came in to begin with, and resolve it if you can. Without doing that, your ceiling repair is just going to have to be done over again. The other ceiling repair suggestions are good - but they don't speak to the cause of the leak. You don't say what the roof above it looks like, or where you live. Is it flat? Is it sloped? Is it shingled or metal? Can you get access to it. without killing yourself? You do NOT want to be getting out on the roof by yourself; you at least need to have someone holding the ladder, and if it's very steeply pitched, this is really not something you should contemplate doing by yourself. It may simply be due to weather conditions: the snow on the roofs can create ice dams, where the melting water re-freezes and gets shoved underneath the roof shingles. If there is no waterproof underlayment underneath the roof shingles, then the water can seep in under the roof shingles. If this is what's happening, the only thing you can try doing now is to keep your roof as clear as you can. A roof rake (special tool, not an actual rake) can be used to clear the snow away from as far up as can be reached, and it can help prevent ice dams. But frankly, this weather is so bad, that's still not a fail safe. You don't say if you own or rent. If you are renting, this should be up to the landlord to fix, and should not be your problem.
Q:the fabric lining my jeep's ceiling is missing in the front of my car. came down in bits and pieces and i wasn't able to reattach it. there's a material underneath that looks something like yellow fiberglass??? is that right? is it safe to be exposed to this? i don't use the car much so i haven't had it fixed yet but i'd like to know what i'm dealing with here. thanks for any help!
It might be fiberglass. Don't eat it! You don't need to handle it anyway. It's called a headliner by the way.
Q:Want to buy their own materials decoration, need to pay attention to what?
Switch panel: the shell and the inner part of the metal part of the thickness of enough weight, inside and the internal structure of the hand touch no rough hanging feel. Design sense, LOGO will not be too big, but whether it is printed or paste pressure, are very delicate. Switch pressure when there is no sense of stagnation, touch switch will not need to be very hard to touch. Sockets Note whether round holes are common to the hole. Conforming to the brand is not too important.
Q:Worked putting ceiling tile in for a commercial building and on the other side of tile was yellow insulation.first time working with it didnt know any betterno gloves no mask short sleeve shirtgot it all over skin by lunch time eyes were watery itchy by the time work was over I was itching next day noticed two red sores on armjust ignored them few days later I had more places similar and itched like crazyhow do I get rid of insulation itch / rash??
Insulation has a nasty habit of doing this to people. Fiberglass insulation is the worst, as it literally cuts the skin and causes serious rashes and enough itchy feeling that people usually draw blood from scratching so much. Water, soap, and a good scrubbing to start would be good. Watch for pain when scrubbing the area to make sure there is nothing stuck in the area that you could potentially be driving deeper into the skin. Buy some anti-itch cream in the mean time. The rash should go away with time and proper hygiene.
